This game took place at the May meeting of the Gaming Association of Southern Pennsylvania (GASP). Players were myself (Merry), Nick (Sam), Megan (Frodo), Stan (Fatty), and Steve (Pippin).
After explaining the expansion we set out. We escaped Bree relatively unscathed with Frodo and Merry taking early leads on the corruption line. The Foes were particularly nasty out of the gate but through some sacrifices we fought them off to skip Moria. Isengard was not as forgiving and, though Sauron had taken only one step towards the fellowship at this point (now standing on 11), Merry and Frodo were now a mere two steps away from him due to taking the majority of the sacrifices for the other players.
Again the Foe line was fought to oblivion in order to skip the dreaded Helm's Deep. Frodo ended up in possession of Golum in Shelob's Lair (how apporpriate) and performed a spectacular act of self-sacrifice in taking four seperate die rolls for the rest of the hobbits, meeting in the first death of the game. Merry followed suit in short order in Mordor, but not before using the last of his cards to get a quick jump on the main line. The rest of the fellowship looked to be in good position however the die started rolling against us and Sauron, who at that point had stayed on 11 since the beginning of the game, jumped up three spaces - devouring Fatty along the way.
The fellowship endured, however, as Sam was simply unreachable as ring-bearer (our tried and true tactic) and he and Pippin cast the ring into Mount Doom.
Final score: 87 (Standard difficulty (12), final space: 60, defeated foes: 24, remaining shields: 13).
I think we're ready to try Friends and Foes on Expert difficulty.
