My last name is Green. When I give my name, people often ask, "With an 'e'?" to which I reply, "actually with two."

Thankfully, I am not one of those Carks. And don't get me started on spellings for Hamzy...

When someone asks me what my last name is I will respond with NATO's phonetic alphabet. That usually throws them for a loop.

we had this conversation at lunch today. several of the lunch places we go ask for a name and I always say "Matthew" because I mumble and my voice is deep so the cashier inevitably hears "Mack" or "Pat" or "Mark" so I say Matthew so they get it right.

My buddy (Ben Pinchback actually) "So, just pick up your food when they say Mack"

well ya... I guess I could

No no no.... (s)he wasn't trying to spell your name. It's what's in the cup!

According to Webster, "cark" means "to burden with care or anxiety", and comes from the Oldde English "carken" meaning "to load or burden".

So I'm pretty sure (given my very low opinion of Starbucks), they were saying, "this is a load of sh*t".

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

When I have to give my name with a fast-food order, I've started using my middle name "Justin", because there seem to be a lot more "David"s around than there used to. I still make sure to spell it out and emphasize the 'J' so it doesn't get confused with "Dustin", which seems to be popular now.

Thanks, Dusty!

My name is Miles Russell. Simple enough, but of course people want to spell Miles as Myles or I end up being called Mike. Russell end up being Russel.

More frequently, however, is they switch my first and last names, so I become Russell Miles. My Psychiatrist still switches them even though I've been going to him for many years. shake

Mike is pretty easy. Chapel on the other hand seems to be damned near impossible to spell for some reason.

Me: My name is Chapel

Them: How do you spell it? Two P's, two L's, silent e?

Me: Uh, you know how to spell church?

Them: But of course.

Me: you know how to spell that place in a church you get married?

Them: Of course.

Me: Ta da.
