David had never played Union Pacific, so we set that up for a table of six. We use the rule where you can only get Union Pacific stock by trading for it, and Bryan pursued a very peculiar strategy of trading Union Pacific for Union Pacific each turn. Now, I don't think Bryan had played Union Pacific more than two or three times before, but if you're not going to compete in the UP stock race yourself, it really behooves you to leave the shares in the supply for the other players to fight over, thus depleting their holdings in the other stocks -- something Bryan agreed made sense, after it was too late.

Bryan was also tempted rather too often into drawing stock when he should have been melding it. For this he was dubbed "The Man Who Would Not Meld," and then, following some conversational excursions into our favorite Alfred Hitchcock anecdotes, "The Man Who Drew Too Much."

Meanwhile David looked like he was cleaning up right and left, demonstrating an uncanny ability to meld multiple shares of stock after other people had built the trains in that company. Jack chattered effusively about how well David was doing for his first game, he was beating up on us mercilessly, he'd never seen anyone catch on so fast, etc., etc. So I knew something was up with Jack, and sure enough, when the money was counted, Jack had managed to tie David for the win.
