Was playing this last night - and had the dreaded soda spill occur. Had not an insignificant number of buildings hit, and it went far enough along the board to get down inbetween two sections (as well as the far edge) and soak in a little.

The soda was a high-end lemon-lime, so at least it was clear pop. Game was mopped up immediately and is drying out! Of course, we were playing 5-player with both the expansion and the various mini-expansions - not sure what all has been hit yet, haven't had time to do a complete assesment.

What's anyone's experience with the results of such a spill with these components? Just curious if I should be looking at what all I should be buying in the way of replacements.

1993 - Cosmic Encounter - "The Great Coke Flood" - little tokens floating away..

However, no permanent damage (perhaps resell had I ever been planning to..). Plays just fine to this day. However, it was the next game day after this one that the "side tables" were purchased and in use.. no spill on games ever again.. just on floor and carpeting.

Did this to a copy of Waterdeep a few years back - an entire two liter across the whole table. I think we got it all mopped up within a couple of minutes. I think there is one stain on the board, but you have to know where it is. The real damage is that the outer edges of cardboard tokens are "exposed" so if they soak up any moisture, they will inflate and never shrink. I think five of the tokens or so are damaged. Something similar happened to a guy here in Portland to a copy of Seasons while they were playing at a bar. The entire set of tokens were damaged to the point where they started splitting/shearing apart. So if the liquid was top surface only, you're probably fine. If the liquid got into any side edges....

Time for a new class of Kickstarter stretch goals: spill-proof components.

Considering most sodas contain high amounts of Corn Syrup, at least the spill was thematic.

We had one of the ladies spill a full berry wine cooler onto the center gear right after the game was set up, right on top of the pile of corn. Everyone sprang into quick action for the cleanup. All the wet pieces were dried off and set between two marble slabs so they wouldn't puff up. Aside from a few small scratches from trying to clean out under the gears and one corn token that split in two, everything is good as new.

Well, astoundingly, everything dried out well, no significant swelling. The only casualty appears to have been a home printed out info sheet, easily reprinted.

Woot! meeple

I'll bet it will be fine since you got it quick. Years ago I had a friend bring a buddy to game night and he borught beer and spilled a whole bottle of dark beer on my Taj Mahal. I was devastated. I immediately ran out and bought a new game to replace it, but when I opened the box a few months ago on the "tainted" version I realized that it's still totally playable. One elephant card has some damage on the edge, but those aren't shuffled into the deck so it would be fine. I still have the "back up" copy in the shrink!

I can't compete with Matt's budgie clip, but...

Avalon Hill put out a game called "War of the Ring" some decades ago.

Two friends were playing. The Sauron player placed his Coke next to the board and played a card, "Rivers Flood".

And then the God of Wargaming smiled...

And on a related incident, we were driving back from the Canberra Gaming Convention , with another game on the back floor of the Ford Escort. Coincidentally, it was ICE's version of the LOTR.

We drove across some flooded bridges successfully, but the floor of an Escort has breather holes in it for some reason.

And the God of Wargaming saw the irony...
