How exactly does this game combine with Marvel?

I haven't played Encounters yet, but I believe the crossover is that you can use the characters in each other's games.

For the rules they are in the rule book but for the actual combination I have played it in two configurations both tons of fun:

1) Regular Aliens setup with Marvel heroes in the Barracks.
2) Regular Marvel with an Encounters twist. This setup was the most fun combining both sets mechanics.

My fun little scenario (Save Humanity from Galactus).

First start with the Aliens game mat counting the Complex as the City.
Setup Villain deck in Hive location as standard Marvel Legendary (I used Skrulls with the Heralds).
Place Scheme in Objective location and Mastermind beneath.
Place Bystanders on Right in Hatchery location.
Use Encounters strikes as flavour texted wounds.
Use Sergeants as more useful Maria Hills.
Use 8x Specialists and 4x Grunts as Starting Hands.
Use the Sulaco/Aliens crew setup (Bishop, Hicks, Hudson, Ripley) plus Silver Surfer as your Heroes.

This is a fun and challenging way to combine sets.

You can mix heroes/allies(marvel), and characters(encounters) in the barracks if playing an encounters game, or the hero/ally deck if playing a marvel game.

You can put villain/adversary group or henchmen/backup adversary enemies in the hive decks taking the place of drone cards if playing encounters, or alien drones in the villain/adversary deck instead of henchmen/backup adversaries if playing marvel.

For example, I played one 2-player game of encounters with 4 Guardians of the Galaxy in the Barracks (starlord, gamora, rocket, groot), and instead of putting 2 drone cards in each objective deck in the hive, I put two infinity gems in each objective deck (6 gems total). It was a tough game at first since it was difficult to heal strikes (KO Wounds in marvel terms), but by the end the Guardians were able to wipe the complex clean each turn. Of course each avatar was one strike away from death at that point. Unfortunately I forget what objectives and which location I played with.

Playing with the Gems as drones was actually really fun!

Playing with the Guardians, and having Shards, would make a big difference in Leg-Aliens.

You didn't play with Drax, whose rare doubles combat. The four-character Leg-Aliens means that you get more ready access to the rares, though, than in Marvel.
