To me it loses a lot as a 2P game... lots and lots of cards that never come into play, it's the same with the full amount of players, still lots of cards don't make it to players hands but still you see a lot more of them... in a 2P games you'll see the same cards round after round...

Not saying it isn't balanced, just not as fum as with more players... IMO

I have not played this with 2, but I imagine it would not be especially good. It seems like 3 & 4 are the sweet spots for this one.

Sorry to be the minority report, but I've played with two and it's fine. It doesn't seem any different than with more. It doesn't matter that all the cards don't come up - it adds variety to the game.

I remember rahdo liking it as a 2p game, but I haven't had a chance to try it myself.

I've played with two and three. The game plays differently with 2 but not in a bad way.

Since I picked the game up it has been our 'quick fix before bedtime' game of choice, (this would be a two player game, of course).

It's a drafting game: the more the merrier. With 2 players, you have almost perfect information - only the first card picked by your opponent is not known. You can use this information to your advantage and I imagine it would give you twice as much to think about. You need to plan your own game while also hindering your opponent. That doesn't sound like my sort of thing, but it may appeal to some players.

I prefer to play Greed with 4 or 5 players. That way, you see more different cards and there are more opportunities to find interesting synergies. You can play an all-Thugs strategy or a heavy Holdings strategy if you want to. With just two players worth of cards, you're pretty much covering all bases with no specialisation.

I've played it with 2 a few times. What we quickly decided to do was to have 3 piles of cards, with the extra pile not rotating (since that would give one player an advantage) but it moving in a back-and-forth motion. In retrospect, I don't know why we didn't just do 4 piles.

I've played Greed 2 player a few times and feel like without a variant it is really lacking. It becomes too difficult to draft combos with such a small card pool. There is a decent chance that several of the cards will also be useless since you may not have the required symbols in the draft at all.

Greed is a great drafting game with 3 or more, but my wife and I won't play it with just the 2 of us anymore.

I frequently play this as a two player game. Like you I almost only get to play with one other person, and we've both loved it. we bought it almost on a whim but it comes to the table as a two player game very frequently now.

It is a much different game with two players as there are a lot less cards so you see less "resources"... but you also see the same ones far more than in games with more player, so you can more safely plan on what you will be able to get. It feels much more carefully orchestrated and controlled than the craziness of a five player game, but we like that, so if you do too you should give it a try.

The simple set up, quick playtime, replayability, game depth, and low pricepoint all in all makes it a pretty big win in our book. We did get it with the kickstarter though so it was very cheap there, and it came with the cool wooden dollar signs. So the value may or may not be high if you're buying it at retail; i haven't really looked at what it's going for since I already own it.

Feel free to PM me or reply here if you have any more specifc questions about it you want answered.

Just a quick note to go along with my above mini-review: we have played this countless times and never once felt this way about 2 player Greed. I have never had a problem drafting combos since your opponent can only take one card out of a pack before giving it back to you. This makes it hard for them to draft up all of the same stuff you are drafting up without you noticing and adapting, something you have much less control over as more players are added in.

As for the useless cards, usually if there are not very many symbols, it becomes strategic in the first few turns to be careful about what you're choosing to see who can get what symbols. If you don't notice or ignore the lack of symbols I agree you are in for a rough game since the other player will get to keep plying and you'll likely have tho throw out a lot of cards. That could be unfun.

But it's never happened to us, and we've played at least 30+ games of two player Greed. So take those kind of comments with a grain of salt. I do think it feels like a different game with 2 players and some people don't like the kind of game it becomes, but we do.

It's a great 2pl game. Main difference: just a fraction of cards will come into play, so you never know what strategy to apply. Sometimes there are bar to none thugs, or holdings. You must adopt. When played with 4pl, all 3 kinds of cards are statistically present. More choices, but games are not that surprising.

So 2pl is different, but it's fun.

Sorry that I am not answering the question as I've not played with 2, but I take issue with your topic

One of the most asked questions on a game is whether it is suitable for 2 players. Maybe not on that particular game, but generally, it is a very common issue.
