Crowded! 2014-11-12

5-player game with all expansions to Kobol, CFB-adjusted treachery.

1.Lee Adama, alternate (jhsa, President)
2.Louis Hoshi (Ant, Admiral)
3."Chief" Galen Tyrol (Sat)
4.Sharon "Boomer" Valerii (me:a1bert)
5.Karl "Helo" Agathon, alternate (Juh, CAG)

We are playing with an adjusted Treachery deck to better suit playing with the Cylon Fleet Board. We have taken out 2x Bait, Dradis Contact, Personal Vices and A Better Machine, and added half of the treachery cards from Pegasus to dilute the Daybreak's treachery and give more variety to Cylons. The removals and additions keep the average value of the treachery about the same. After a few games we'll see how it works and we can do a few further tweaks.

Game Begins

Lee flies to Quorum Chamber, and draws a Quorum Card, then Assigns Boomer as Mission Specialist. I'll be selecting one of three destinations the next time we jump. Lee gets two Politics cards. Unsettling Stories(9YG) seems hard at this point, so we suggest not to try it. Lee should have the most politics. So, we lose one morale (now at 9).

Hoshi moves to Command, moves a viper at the back of Galactica, then escorts one civilian. We don't have good cards to handle Crash Landing(6PR), but I put in one, Helo, Lee and Hoshi play one too. The check comes up with Force Their Hand and Trust Instincts, which adds both positive and negative. It appears the check had only my small positive card and totals 0. Hoshi adds 4-Strategic Planning to the check, and then plays Declare Emergency and the check passes. A heavy raider is launched.

Chief XO's Hoshi in Command, a viper intercepts the heavy raider, misses first, but takes it out with the second shot. A shot at the basestar misses. Centurion Assault(9PR) has the same bad colors again, so we tank the check. The check totals -7, the chief goes to sickbay because one of the raptors blow up.

I don't have the CAG title, but I move to Hangar Deck lauch in the Assault Raptor at the front side, then Launch Scout. It succeeds, and I scout the destination, in spite of getting to pick from 3 destinations the next time we jump. I keep it at the top (Desolate Moon - 3 distance for 3 fuel). Food Shortage comes up, but I would rather not throw away 3 cards. 2 would be okay, so Lee decides to lose 2 food (at 6). A raider shoot down an unmanned viper, and the other ones move towards the civilian ships. Boomer Recons and I decide to keep the crisis.

Helo moves to Weapon's Control and gives me the CAG title after launching another viper. Helo decides to try to Network Computers(11YPB). Lee does not play into the check, other players do, and the check is all positive with 24, and Helo Quick Thinking to take a 3-Launch Scout out of the check. So, the jump preparation advances twice.

Lee XO's Chief, who gets out of sickbay and activates viper from Command twice, and it takes out both raiders. Lee draws two more Quorum Cards. Chief and Helo perform Terrorist Investigations(12YG). Bait adds a civilian ship, the check totals 4, and the check fails. Morale drops to 8. Then we jump, and my Mission Specialist selects the next jump target. I bring the fleet to Asteroid Field - 3 dist for 2 fuel (at 6 now), destroy 1 civililian ship. (I bury the one I scouted: Desolate Moon - 3 for 3, and Deep Space - 2 distance for 1 fuel and 1 morale.) The one ship left behind is empty, so no other resource is lost in the jump. So, the destination was a great choice.

Hoshi is in Command, so he launches a viper, moves it to the back of Galactica, then spends a skill card to escort the two civilian ships. Cylon Screenings(9YG)takes two cards from everyone, I discard Trust Instincts and Maximum Firepower. A raider meets with the Cylon Fleet, and a civilian ship appears at the back of Galactica where the unmanned viper is waiting.

Chief moves to Hangar Deck to repair two MKVII vipers, then XO's President Lee, who draws 4 Quorum Cards. Pegasus appears. Hoshi calls vipers in due to Sleep Deprivation and Chief ends up in sickbay.

I launch Boomer in an Assault Raptor to take advantage of the CAG action and launch a wingman. I then Launch Scout and roll a 8. I keep it at the top again (Deep Space - 2 dist, -1 fuel, -1 morale). I don't want to discard cards, so I select the skill check for A Traitor Accused(8YG). Even if I end up in the brig, it is not the end of the world, because I would probably end up in the brig before my next turn anyway. Chief makes blue positive for the check with Scientific Research. Lee plays one, Hoshi helps with 2 and Chief one, I put in 2. I remove a negative card from the check with Dogfight, and make a 7 into 8. I receive 2 engineering cards from Install Upgrades. A raider meets with the cylon fleet and two civilian ships are added. I then Recon the next crisis and bury it (EdNote: Domestic Dispute(9YP), with no jump symbol).

Helo moves to Command, launches a viper and moves the other to the back of Galactica. Sabotage Investigated(9PB) would lose food or all but population. The check comes up with only one negative and totals 12, so we lose one food (at 5). A heavy raider is added and the cylon fleet catches up with us with jump preparation at -3 blue.

Lee XO's Helo in Command. Helo escorts two civilian ships and a viper shoot at a raider twice, and misses both times. Lee draws another Quorum Card, and wonders what to do. Authorization of Brutal Force takes out one heavy raider from the front of Galactica. The roll comes up with 2, and would thus lose population, but I spend Calculations to make it a 3 to save the people. (I'm thinking forward for the time I end up in the brig.) I help a little trying to prevent Reactor Critical(7PRB). Helo plays one and Lee plays a lot. The check totals 20, and Protect the Fleet activates. One raider is shot down at the back of Galactica. That unmanned has a better shot than the other one. 3 raiders are launched.

Hoshi plays Strategic Planning on a Nuke roll, but his roll of 2 only takes out a basestar. Guilt by Collusion(9GP) totals 8, but Helo saves it with Declare Emergency. Two raiders are added, but Hoshi does not brig anyone. A viper is damaged by a raider, and the other raiders move around. The jump track is at -1 blue.

Sleeper

Chief moves to FTL Control, and jumps the fleet. The roll is 6, and loses one population (at 11). Hoshi takes the fleet to Binary Star - 2 distance for 1 fuel, and places a civilian ship at the front and back of Galactica. (EdNote: he buries the one I had scouted.) We have reached sleeper at distance 5, and Boomer is thrown into the brig, which I knew. The CAG title reverts to Helo.

I get two Personal Goals: Acquire Power: 2+ titles, or lose 1 food, and Stand and Fight: 10+ raiders on the main game board, or lose 1 population. The former seems quite unlikely, while the second one more likely, but it seems that the way the game is going now, I won't need to finish the more likely one, but could well be needed to finish the harder one.

Helo spends the day Training a Rookie, and two vipers are damaged. A basestar is added to the CFB and a civilian ship is added.

I don't draw Critical Situation, I would have a lot to do from the brig. I play Combat Veteran, launch a viper, escort a civilian and the viper flies at the back of Galactica to protect another. Boomer Recons and buries a crisis (Prison Labor(10YGP), with no jump preparation).

Helo launches into space with an Assault Raptor, then escorts a civilian, then Launches Scout. He succeeds and scouts the crisis, then buries both (EdNote: Informing the Public(7YG), Colonial Day(10YP), both threatening morale but with jump preparation). Helo decides to roll for Set a Trap(10GP), and we avoid centurions. A raider is added to CFB.

Lee XO's me in the brig. I play another Combat Veteran to move an unmanned and escort a civilian ship and launch another. I then use Unorthodox Plan to activate Command to escort the two remaining civilian ships. Lee draws one more Quorum Cards, then draws another one. President Lee discards 5 cards for The Circle. A raider is added and two new civilian ships appear. The jump track goes forward one step.

Hoshi plays Test the Limits and plays with a Launch Scout. I play Strategic Planning, but the roll comes up with only 2. So, Armory gets damaged. Food Shortage loses one food (at 4) and cards from Lee and Hoshi. A raider pulls in the cylon fleet to the main game board and jump preparation is at -3 blue now.

Chief moves to FTL Control, and I suggest we jump. But Chief XO's Hoshi in Command. He escorts a ship and shoots at a heavy raider and misses three times. The Passage(14PRB) would increase jump preparation, and the alternative might send Chief to sickbay, so the Chief selects the skill check, and I use Boomer's OPG to pass the skill check automatically. Jump preparation goes forward, raiders activate and miss a shot on a viper, and then we jump. Hoshi takes us to Remote Planet - 2 distance for 1 fuel (at 5 now) and 1 raptor. Helo lands the Assault Raptor, because due to his weakness he gets less skill cards in space. Hoshi wonders who's playing the long con this time.

I don't get Critical Situation this time either, but I still try to get Boomer out of the brig. Everyone else passes the skill check. I play in one. The check totals -2, so it was good I did not spend the better ones. I Recon the next crisis and leave it at the top due to it having a jump symbol.

Helo Launches a Scout, and I wonder why he does not first launch into space to get a free unmanned viper activation. I call him a cylon. He rolls 2 and destroys a raptor. I play Guts And Initiative on the skill check of Witch Hunt(10YG) to see which colors appear in the check. Lee, Hoshi and Chief play into the check. The check reveals Iron Will and Bait and positive otherwise, totaling 14. Reckless check does not activate. A heavy raider is added and a civilian ship appears.

Lee draws a Quorum Card and I say that I can take either one, meaning Execute Prisoner or Presidential Pardon. Lee does not find anything good to play from his huge Quorum Hand. He finally plays Arrest Order on Hoshi and the admiralty goes to Helo. Water Shortage takes one food (at 3). Basestar appears with a raider and two heavy raiders at the front of Galactica.

Hoshi thinks of XO's me, so Boomer tries to get out of the brig, with Scientific Research, making blue positive. Chief plays one and I do too. Helo and Lee pass, and Hoshi helps with one card from the brig. Destiny provides me with 6 negative, Trust Instincts brings in some more, and the check totals 0. Boomer tries the same again. This time I'll play my large Tactics card. Chief plays Scientific Research, and plays in one. Helo and Lee play one this time, and Hoshi too. The check comes up with two piloting cards 15-8 is 7, so the check passes, and I move Boomer to Hangar Deck.

Chief launches vipers from Command. Is Galactica Falling Apart(8GRB)? We try to prevent it, but I feel the cylons are doing more to make it happen. Red Tape tries to wreak havoc in the skill check. Trust Instincts brings in Quick Thinking, which allows Red Tape to be removed, but it does not help enough, so Chief takes a 2-Executive Order instead. Protect the Fleet lets one civilian to be escorted. A raider moves closer and jump track is at -3 blue.

Boomer goes to Admiral's Quarters and suggests to brig Helo, who plays in cards. Lee passes. The check comes up with a lot of red and the check fails. Give in to Despair(14YG) is bad now with humans having so little cards. And we actually want to fail the check more than pass it. The check totals 0 with Iron Will, so 3 morale are lost (now at 5). Boomer Recons the next crisis and buries it (Mysterious Message(9YB) because it would allow Helo to shoot at Galactica).

Helo reveals and sends Boomer back into the Brig and receives a Super Crisis (The Farm(15PB)). There is no automatic hand-off of the unrevealed loyalty card, but Lee gets the CAG and Admiral titles.

Lee sends Chief into the brig. All humans are now in the brig, it seems. Elections Loom(8YG), we tank the check, lose 1 morale (at 4) and Lee discards 4 skill cards. Two treachery cards are added to the empty destiny deck. The fleet jumps. Hoshi jokes that the admiral will select the destination with 4 fuel and that's game over. Then Admiral Lee takes us to Lion's Head Nebula - 3+ distance, -4 fuel. (EdNote: alternative destination Tylium Planet). Our fuel is at zero and the game is over.

It's Crowded in Here!

We reveal the unrevealed loyalty cards. Chief reveals Use Caution: 1-distance jump, or lose 1 population (10 now). I reveal Boomer's Stand and Fight: 10+ raiders, or lose 1 population (at 9), and Acquire Power: 2+ titles, or lose 1 food (at 2).

Lee has a plain YANAC, and had a You Are a Cylon: Reduce Morale from the beginning of the game. Helo was activated at sleeper.

Cylon Win by fuel (jhsa, Juh)
End Resources: Fuel 0, Food 2, Morale 4, Population 9, 10 distance traveled
Game length: 95 minutes

Crisis Played:
Unsettling Stories(9YG), Crash Landing(6PR), Centurion Assault(9PR), Food Shortage, Network Computers(11YPB), Terrorist Bomber(9GP), Cylon Screenings(9YG), Sleep Deprivation, A Traitor Accused(8YG), (Domestic Dispute(9YP)) Sabotage Investigated(9PB), Reactor Critical(7PRB), Guilt by Collusion(9GP), Training a Rookie, (Prison Labor(10YGP) Informing the Public(7YG) Colonial Day(10YP)) Set a Trap(10GP), The Circle, Food Shortage, The Passage(14PRB), Witch Hunt(10YG), Water Shortage, Galactica Falling Apart(8GRB), Give in to Despair(14YG), (Mysterious Message(9YB)) Elections Loom(8YG)

Final Thoughts

The end game was pretty quick, because Boomer was already in the brig, and Lion's Head Nebula came up conveniently for Lee.

A large Quorum Hand hinted at Lee being a cylon. With CFB there should be better things to do than draw Quorum Cards, although with alternate Lee it gets overlooked because Lee gets a free activation after giving out an XO.

We should've kept a keener eye on who had a lot of skill cards in hand. It seems that human players are spending more cards into the skill checks, although only a few ones overshot.

I played Calculations to save population. I should've saved it for a more important situation.

The positives from this game is that it ended jhsa's losing streak jhsa got to be a cylon for change, and Sat and/or Ant were not cylons this time.

Well, at this point just 2 politics, since my ticket to C1 was Consolidate Power.

At this point I was thinking it's a bit too fast, but can't do much about it without being obvious.

Luckily someone else was also suggesting that we discard two cards instead of that skill check with possible loyalty check (which I felt it would be my card).

Earlier in the game you joked that I had a long con again, which I had of course.

Probably the only really useful for humans would've been the second ABF, since morale was not an issue so there were no need for those 3 Inspirational Speeches either. I was sort of asking for XOs before that, to do nice things ... with 2 arrest orders. But as luck would have it, in the end this was better way, since I probably would've brigged my fellow cylon. My reasoning for brigging Hoshi was to move admiralty away.

That was hilarious!

True, but there wasn't much useful stuff in the deck apart from those arrest orders and ABFs, and when it was my turn I usually XOed others when I had those (I really didn't have those later all the time), since I only drew one 1 (always drew 1 yellow and one 1 green). And I think there wasn't that critical things to do anyway.

Well, it ended 2 games earlier when the lone cylon (Ant) lost against 3 humans (CL being one).
