He who comes too late is punished by life.

My wife and I have played Madeira 4 times now and I feel The Castles of Burgundy has become obsolete. Madeira is such a better game, and doesn't feel unnecessarily long. What do you all think?

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars, where you will be forced to drift aimlessly farther into the vast, empty abyss of space until a lack of food, water and oxygen causes you to succumb to Death's cold embrace.

First time I've seen them in the same sentence. Why do you think they match up?

TCoB seems to drag an extra turn, Madeira 5 rounds is perfect. Dice actions, tile modifiers, shipping. TCoB takes the same amount of time as Madeira but the tension never lets up.

Castles always drags with 4, that's for sure. Still not sure why you'd associate them though. Either way, go Madeira!

Best title ever: "[thing= 84876][/thing]" killer?

The relative weights of these games don't really make them comparable. Additionally, they don't have the same feel. The only real similarity is that they use dice in a non-traditional way.

I think I slightly prefer CoB, but currently would rather play Madiera again next.

Frankly, I was surprised how much complaining there was about Madiera being too complex and complicated. It is really not. The rules are a bit of a mess and we made stickers to label the board areas and role cards to help with teaching. Once you know how to play, there is a fair amount going on but not an insane amount.

What really makes me want to play more is how there are SO many more things that you want to do than are possible, and it is hard for me to evaluate which to ignore from game to game.

I had this very same experience the first play. No crunch time where you can't get your plans done in time. One round too long is exactly what I said to those I was playing with. For a Feld, I was thinking it would have limiting factor like most of the his others where it is enough actions to do some things that are fresh each turn, but alas, the last round felt like it had all been done and I should've quit already.

edit: I like Madeira more, but the depth ratio is like apples and oranges.

Our games of Madiera take at least 1 hour longer than CoB.

It was really only our very first CoB game that dragged out. After that, they go pretty quick.
