Our gaming group in NJ manages to get Here I Stand to the table about once every three or four months. We had three new players for this game so the pace was on the slower side but they all did a great job. The three new players were the Prots, Otts and France, Don was the Pope, Steve was England and I was the Haps. Out of the Box the Prots put a lot of pressure on the Pope by taking all the Electorates, the Haps took Metz only to see the French come in and claim it. England went to war with Scotland, and France allied with them. France reinforced Scotland. The Otts took Belgrade and were making their way to Buda with a big stack. The pope fought back hard and managed to burn two debaters that were both 2's picking up 4 VP's. The dice had turned cold for the Prots and the Pope was at 25 or 26 VP's for three turns in a row. The Prots managed to save the game each time pushing them back to 24 VP's on the last card play of each turn. The Pope also had Florence. The French kept the pressure on England with Naval battles delaying England from taking Scotland until about turn three and also forcing England to use their home card for taking Scotland, thus delaying his divorce. The French then turned their attention to Calais which did not turn out well for them. Only the Haps managed to explore, conquer and colonize, picking up 5 VP's for that. After the Otts took Buda they turned their attention to Venice. That did not turn out well for them. It was a big battle with 20+ dice to each side with the Otts only getting one hit while the Haps scored nine. This was the decisive battle in the West as after that the Haps rolled up the Otts. But the Focus was clearly on a very strong Pope with everyone but the French concerned. The Haps took Genoa with Andrea Doria and the French decided to go after the Haps in that area. The Haps attacked and captured Marsailles and lost Genoa to the French Then the French pressed their luck and attacked Marsailles only to be wiped out leaving a clear path through Genoa to Milan which the Haps took for an Auto win of 14 keys on turn 5 or 6.
