I don't trust my skills or patience to do a full paint job on these minis, but on the other hand the grayness is not appealing at all.

Has anyone done a basic, 2-3 color painting of the minis, rather than a full-blown one? And if so, can you post some pics?

I'm hesitant to start and then find out it it's worse than leaving the minis in a single tone of gray.

Anything would be better than leaving them grey. Check out some pics here on BGG then just lay down the matching basecoats. Other than the heroes, most models only need 2-3 colors to make them very game ready.

I've since added some washing and drybrushing to mine, but when I first got the game I played several times with minis that only wore a basecoat and it was just fine.

Pathfinders usually has pretty basic blocks of color. Here are some examples:

My argument though is at that point, all you need to do is the "dip" method and it creates all kinds of pain free shading for you! You can use Army Painter http://www.thearmypainter.com/ but I use cheap Minwax Polyshades which also protects your mini so you can even throw them back into the box without padding:

Even a little bit of paint is better than no paint so you can't really ruin them. A lot of D&D minis have only one or two colors but it goes a long way:

For the pure minimalist and quickest work, spray paint with the base color (like blue for the tentacles, spiders and stranglers) and dip.

Here's my very basic tentacle painting. A black primer dry brushed with turquoise, purple, and tan (The exact paints I used were from the set offered in the kickstarter, but I most often paint with the $2 per bottle acrylics you can pick up at hobby stores.).

Could stand some hi-lighting but probably won't happen. Too ready to get them on the board

Pick up the Reaper Learn to Paint Kit: Drybrushing and Washing. Some OLGS's carry it. Or wait until Reaper has its "12 Days of Reaper" promotion in December and buy it on their site but at MSRP. When you paint, start with the tentacles and monsters first, and heroes last.

Where's the button to add an image? I have a bunch of basic painted minis to share. (One coat, 4 colors each, done and done)

After you've hit reply, you'll see a row of icons up top. Click on the one shown below, an arrow pointing to a camera, and then browse to where your photos are stored. You need to "Select new file" and then "Upload files."

Once the photo is inserted, you can add the word "large" (wihtout quote marks) within the brackets to make the photo bigger. You can also cut and paste the code to wherever you want the photo to appear.

E.g. [imageid =111111 large]

I suffer from a combination of not having enough time to paint as much as I'd like to, and being lazy. I will do my standard paintjob on the heros, but for the monsters I think I am just going to paint them a solid color that matches their cards and hit them with quickshade(dip). MAYBE I will do 2 or 3 colors... spray the base color and then pick out a few details.

Hi there
I see that Robert Lewis has already pointed at my blog (thanks) (I had to check where all the traffic came from).
I try to do relatively basic paint-jobs on the Brimstone minis there, with a few colours and a wash or two. I also specify which colours I use.
So far I've finished the Tentacles, Void Spiders and Stranglers, and I will probably manage one or two new minis a week.
You will find everything Brimstone here:

It will hopefully give you some inspiration

You're welcome Klutz. You'll hopefully get your boxes soon, they seem to arrive in Canada now.

Let me know if you want more pics of this type, I have a bunch but don't want to flood the space if this is the wrong spot. Hope it's helpful.

Yep, UPS tracking has it scheduled for next Thursday!
A glorious weekend awaits!

Ethan, those look really good man!
And I'm no expert*, but I think a light wash would really make those minis pop!

* I've never actually painted a miniature, hehe.
