I really like what they did here.
Just a gut reaction.

Those squad upgrades are not unique!

Would be nice if we could see the ship stats on the skill tokens.

Same initial stats as the resource? Same mechanics for dropping tokens?

The only thing were missing is the combat values.

If we assume they function like the resource, we potentially have a powerful tool now.

OK - now those look cool.

They are going to HAVE to add an equivalent for the Klingons and Romulans.

I like the 3-point Barrage of Fire equivalent too. Certainly some fun-looking options for the fighters. I am a bit concerned about the 5 tokens for the named ship, if the tokens work the same way they did for the resources. I presume the generic would only have 4 tokens, but that still a lot of attacks needed to take down a fleet of these (unless there is no generic version).

Say I have Escort and Flanking Attack. Can I use both on the turn?
One says "You cannot attack this round" the other says "If you haven't already attacked this round..."

Is it possible to give both Attack and Defense dice to a ship it is escorting?

Barrage of Fire considers the ship to be attacking for other effects outside of the card (i.e., having to decloak after using it), even though the card doesn't actually say that anywhere. Thematically, that makes sense. I assume that this would be considered the same way, that you would not be able to use both cards on the same turn.

I'm sort of thinking there is no generic version - after all, the 'resource' version of the ship didn't have one.

Still, that means you can run two flights of fighters with the resources in-hand. The names ARE unique.

That would be...rather annoying to the Borg.

Three flights, once the Fed fighters hit.

As a Borg player, I will freely admit that these have me far more worried than just about anything else I've seen thus far.

I'm really curious where the 24 point cost comes from. Obviously we can't see the stats, but this feels like it is probably another instance of the designer(s) departing from the normal points formula. If so, this would be the first instance of them doing that for an OP and tournament legal retail release.

Could the first token be this?:
7
0
1
0

And the last token be this?:
3
4
1
0

If so, then the costing comes from two times the highest stats possible.

7+4+1+0 X 2 = 24

It could, but it'd be madness for them to release fighters that are that much better than the resource for only 4 points more. Personally I'm expecting the highest attack to be only 3 or 4.

I had sort of wondered if they might adapt some of the Troop mechanics from D&D:AW when making the retail fighters. It looks like they did somewhat.

Very cool.

Based on what kind of attack these things have and assuming they work like their resource counterpart, they may well be more powerful than the Borg.

Starting primary weapon value of 6+ would be insane
5 would be extremely competitive
4 would be good
3 would be about right

Well done Wizkids, I was pretty skeptical about this expansion but it turned out really well.

These seem like they might be VERY powerful and possibly meta changing.

I think there is likely going to be a rule that you lose the game if the only ship/s you have are fighters or something forcing you to atleast have one normal ship.

In any case, I'm definitely going to homebrew custom fighters for the Klingons and Romulans based on this..... Maybe even Vulcans too.

What's with all these "tactics" they're trying to introduce? Isn't this a game about geometric shapes rolling buckets of dice at each other?

It will be annoying to pretty much everyone. I really, really hope these things are balanced but it sure doesn't seem like it. Take this, the resource, and the upcoming Federation fighters and you have something worse than Borg. I mean really, most people agreed that it was a very good thing that the resource was unique, and now we'll be able to run multiples. Ugh.

Cloaked mines will make a comeback I guess. I always had them handy when the hidekis 1st came out.

A meta shift in this game WILL NOT be a bad thing.

I've always been annoyed by the lack of maneuver card in these previews and now I can add lack of tokens to that list of grievances. We really don't know the most important stats of these things!

The fighter squadrons are a new thing, like the admirals when they came out. I am sure that they will come with a reference card covering them, and will probably be limited to one per fleet. No sense in getting worked up until we see all the cards.
