Take a look and compare them for yourself.

I attempted to post this as a question, TWICE, but the net-nanny moderating this game title censored it both times.

I have not played either game, but read the rules for Francis Drake and saw a video for F&A Fury. So many different things in those games - FD is not at all a retheme. I doubt F&A even inspired the design of FD the slightest.

What on Earth are you talking about? There is no moderator nor censor.

It may be that the games are similar, but I don't think the designer knows that. The only games I've heard him compare it to are Egizia and Vasco da Gama (I think).

You said originally that you tried to post it twice as a question. Apparently you tried to post it as a review, which does have moderation. There's nothing preventing you from posting your arguments in this thread.

Yep, your problem was that you posted a trivial comment as a reviewed work. As long as it's not a review or a session report you're allowed to post whatever you like.

I was part of the multi-year development and play testing of Francis Drake and I can assure you decisions for this game were made far before anyone heard of Fire & Axe: A Viking Saga. I also fail to see the resemblances you claim are there.

I can say Francis Drake is an outstanding game with very high production values. It has done consistently well at game conventions and at BGG Con 2013 came in first in the Geek Buzz Leader Board.

I am not very familiar with Fire & Axe: A Viking Saga so I will leave others to describe its merits. The only point I will make, is that they are two very dissimilar games.

Cheers
Ralph

Have them both, love them both, apart from boats which sail to places they've nothing in common. FD is about provisioning and heading out on three journeys which play out a bit like a strategic race. F&A is more take that and interacting with other players through card play. Both great games but very different itches.
