So I'm a little OCD and hate playing a game with unpainted minis. Our gaming group is getting together tomorrow night to play so I had one week to get these bad boys done. Other than taking a break to make a card holder, I pretty much painted during most of my free time. I finally got the whole thing finished today! A full day ahead of schedule so I can actually try a solo game tonight to figure out the rules!

I think the void spiders were done in 20 minutes as I pretty much slapped on paint as fast as possible. I spent the most time on the heroes and the slashers (the bug dudes) which I think are the best figs out of the whole collection. Threw on some gravel and some static grass to the base to give it some extra detailing. Certainly not my best work but the fastest I've ever done! Might take some pics of the figs in action tonight and post later but I can breath a sigh of relief! Maybe I'll even paint the otherworld versions of some of the monsters from the red sprue now that this major project is done.

Thankfully, we had warmer weather today and yesterday (40's) so I was able to spray protective coating on them. I think it's because I rushed but the matte spray ended up being a little shiny. Might need to spray on Dullcote in the spring once it warms up again.

I liked the slashers the most and the void spiders the least. I thought the dozen undead would be a pain to paint but with an assembly line of using one color on different parts of each zombie, it went quicker than I anticipated. The stranglers were super easy as it was just dark blue drybrushed with light blue and then the mouth and teeth.

Considering that I've spent six hours on one Terminator from Space Hulk, this went pretty fast.

I tried pre-highlighting with an airbrush for the first time. Check out this thread for more on this. I first primed with black. All my priming is done with this:

I've tried all kinds of primer (stay away from automotive) and this by far is the best and cheapest.

Then I used an airbrush to spray white from above. Then you are supposed to be able to do light washes of color and you have shading already built in. But I found that washes didn't have enough "punch" of color so it didn't really save me that much time. So after this experiment, I'll go back to my tried and true method of just priming (mostly with either black or white, depending on whether or not I want a lot of vibrant colors (white) or darkness (black). I usually do white primer for heroes and black for monsters. Here's a tutorial of my usual painting method using Kaosball figs.

For the sake of time, I'd pick black primer. Then you can skip the "mud" part that adds in the dark lines and shading.

I really need a cheap primer. I'm having a hard time coming up with any spare cash to put towards my gaming habit at the moment. Where did you buy that brand? I looked at Lowes and didn't see any except automotive primer.

They all look really great... especially the bandito and the slashers.

I saw the Zenithal highlighting method too and wondered if the color washes would have enough saturation.

I particularly wanted the monsters to pop, so thanks for saving me some time experimenting with the technique on these.

You can find it at Walmart for less than $4 a can, IIRC.

You seemed to really enjoy painting them. These look good, but you could probably do better on a second attempt. I'll offer up my unpainted figures in exchange for these so you can really make them great on that second try.

Ha! I think my wife would kill me. She called herself a "miniature widow" this past week. Thankfully, I got this before Thanksgiving break so she wouldn't have to pull me away from painting to be with the fam! blush

So was able to finally play the darn game last night. I went with 2 heroes, the gunslinger and the saloon girl. Here's the initial setup. Look at how clean the table looks! (Compared to what it will look like at the end.)

Gunslinger starting items. Had to try out my 3D chamber and bullets! (That dynamite ended up being a lifesaver!)

Saloon girl who had the lantern failed the first four Hold Back the Darkness rolls. Neither hero could Scavenge worth beans--only one success the whole night! And then the first Exploration token is the Growing Dread one! At least it has a clue icon.

The walls were ones I already had for D&D. They come from Hirst Arts molds which you pour plaster into to make 3D terrain. Looks pretty but mostly impractical as you can't move the board very easily. I've thought about making custom 3D terrain but decided against it since, 1) That is an insane amount of terrain to build considering you'd have to make the reverse side as well, and 2) the squares are 1-1/4" and HA molds have either 1" or 1-1/2" squares. Here's the link to HA website:
http://www.hirstarts.com/index.html I used molds #81 & 82.

So the Low Threat Encounter results in a Night Terror and FIVE Stranglers! But wait, did I read that card right? ...

...Nope, it's supposed to be an Ambush!

A quick rearrange to surround the hapless heroes:

The heroes manage to kill the Stranglers that are behind but sure enough, Saloon Girl misses the Hold Back the Darkness roll again and a Darkness card is drawn. Undead Ambush!

Gunslinger tosses the dynamite--only to miss! But luck has it so that it bounces off the wall back into the original target to hit six enemies! Wipes out all but the Night Terror who has 5 damage. Night Terror starts putting on the hurt though, especially with the 2 horror hits per turn.

The Gunslinger ignores all other enemies to focus on the Night Terror. He uses his Dead Eye shots to finish it off!

After that, it's just mop up for the remaining Undead but not after taking a lot of Sanity hits. Fortunately, there is an Artifact draw from the Loot deck to get some Harrowfern Fungus!

After a hallway and some more failed Scavenge searches, another Clue and a Gate! (Yeah, in the first scenario, you are supposed to ignore Gates but that's just how these heroes roll.

Apparently, these heroes can't roll movement neither because it takes three turns to get through the gate! The final clue is there and a high threat battle! They end up being Ancient Spiders who kept rolling fives and sixes to double the damage. This KO's the Saloon Girl but she uses the Revive Token to avoid the Injury Chart and the heroes win the day!

Ending stats & rewards for heroes:

Compare what the table looks like at the end!

Did you put a finish on the minis? Matte or Glossy? Spray or brush on? Thinking through this part now.
