A local jewellers has a range of pendants which are bugs in resin - the thought never occurred to mount these on wood hex bases as a Hive set. Mainly due to the exorbitant cost.

And I was expecting some MLK-related, board gaming inspired, I-have-a-dream human rights speech.

Instead.... Eurgh.

I was thinking full resin hexes. Not that expensive if you do it yourself. It's not hard at all.

I looked up the chess set and it's pretty cool thanks. I think a hive set would be easier.

I think the only think that may look a bit off is the different size of bugs. Finding all similar to the same size might be a bit tricky.

Never looked into resin-craft so wouldn't know - about cost or ease. I could probably make a hash of it though.

Good point. I was thinking with smaller bugs like ants and mosquitos putting more than one per piece.

My biggest problem would be finding every bug. Here in suburban California I haven't seen a grasshopper in years.

Another approach would be 3d printing the bugs, painting them (or use full color prints) and them embed them in resin...
Prizey though...
