Okay, so players have a player mat that states, "NEVER re-arrange your hand!" The rules have been read for all to hear. And, yet, someone can't resist and rearranges their hand. How do you handle this situation?

My only experience of that happening is when the cards are first dealt out. At that point, the simplest solution is to just take back all the cards, remind the players, and redeal.

I have never had it happen in the midst of a game, but might suggest shuffling their hand and giving it back to them with a reminder not to do it. I find that after playing a few hands, players understand why not to re-arrange and don't in fact do it.

Another problem run into by newer players sometimes is they will pull cards out of their hand when trying to make a trade and then the trade never happens and they forget where the card was in their hand.

More fiddly, but get card racks for all players. However, they can still rearrange cards, even if it's more noticeable, and this would reveal your hand to those sitting next to you.

If it was an honest mistake just shuffle their hand again.

If it was a dishonest mistake, then they get a nut tap too.

If you cut off one of their hands, this will both discourage them from doing it again, and also make it harder for them to do it again.

This is the rule we followed in my group, but this method broke down when a certain player tried to rearrange his hand for a third time.

So, out of curiosity, how are you typing this message?

Let him eat some beans! Or allow the rest of the players to reorder their hands also. Cutting of certain body parts is not really allowed because the cards become dirty that way.
