Yeah, that is the problem, finding someone with the commitment to get to silver. I don't think I have got there yet on these forums.

Isn't Merrimac looking for a game

I think no one really understands how time consuming pbf is, especially if you are the one who is making the map updates etc.

Yes, playing is a huge time commitment. Doing map updates is even more. I can usually do ask the updates myself if the other person isn't comfortable with them, or they would prefer me to tech them how to do it.

What about play by skype sessions? I have all the expansions and if moves were coordinated. I have been desperately trying to find anyone to play the overlord for a rtl campaign.

Someone kindly created a vassal module. I've used this with Skype to play with a Mate a while ago. very good if you are in a similar Timezone and don't mind scheduling play.

Have just seen all the text. Not sure exactly how it works. Downloaded the vassal module once but never played with it much. Obfuscate just seems very slow to me.

Typically it goes pretty slow. With me, it is usually a bit faster, as I normally around a pc or smartphone. I have gmail chat up all the time, so if there are questions or concerns to ask, or if someone made an illegal move, we can clear it up that way rather than waiting a whole day to get it figured out. Also, it depends on what timezone you are in and how often you are able to play.

If you can't find friends in your area to play with, then PBF is your friend.

I played a bunch a few years back when the PBF first started here. I actully really enjoyed it. I played as overlord twice, played in games twice and played in two start up campaigns...

One campainged died from lack of attention, the other I left out of frstration of a bad round of botched orders and issues about conditionals that annoyed me. Not to say I was right, I just got turned off by a weeks worth of turns basicly being thrown out... Also two of the other heros were out at the time and I was trying to do orders for all of them to keep the game going.

Aside fromt hat, I had a lot of fun with it. Hvae ahd three babies born since then, doubt I could decicate the time lol.

I twisted Vonpaul's arm enough to play.

House rules are as follows:

House Rules
1) The following props from SoB count as obstacles, and this should be a standardized House rule/interpretation. Everything else (Barrel, Statue, Pipe Organ, Reef, Sandbar, Water (both), Weapon mount (both) and Whirlpool)
2) Encounters and dungeon levels do not get shuffled unless expunged. Locations do get shuffled. Playing SoB and RtL Dungeons as well as applicable SoB rumors.
3) Final battle is per standard RtL (NOT SoB) but the OL may use threat as per encounters.
4) Feat cards will be used but all those which require conditional orders will be removed. Double pack of feats.
5) Skills-Holy Aura: works at the beginning of the OL's turn as well as normal timing. Shadow Soul: happens before anything else in a hero's turn and the hero counts his start of turn location at whichever location he chose (ignore the FAQ ruling that he can't use a glyph)
6) All Named monsters from RtL/ToI dungeons receive an additional +8 HP +1 armor per Campaign Level beyond Copper. The Overlord's Keep counts as a 4th (Diamond) campaign level for this purpose (and for the purpose of SoB Named Level Leaders).
7) Extra option at Secret Master Training +2W +1F
8) Rapid Fire is limited to once per attack
9) Kar-Amag-Atoth cannot be purchased until the Silver level of the Campaign
10) Boosted weak heroes as per the other thread (see below)

Quote:
Ispher - 2CT
Eliam - +1 melee dice (2/0/2 traits), +1 Combat skill draw (2Com/2Ma/1choice)
Sahla - change ranged dice to magic (0/0/3 traits)
Lindell - 4CT
Sir Valadir - +1 magic dice (2/0/2 traits, move Subterfuge skill to combat (2/0/1 skills)
Mok - melee dice to magic (0/0/3 traits)
Red Scorpion - 2 trait dice everywhere (2/2/2 traits), special can be used two times per turn
Tetherys - magic dice to range (0/3/0 traits), 1 Subterfuge skill to magic (0/2/1 skills)
Challara - 2CT
Arvel - Keeps 2 skills, not one (buying extra skills will cost her more)
Aurim - Special -> Alchemist
Shiver - 2CT, Willpower
Lyssa - 2 trait dice each in magic and melee (2/0/2 traits)

I will go ahead and roll for heroes, then let VonPaul choose if he wants to play the hero group or the OL.

My inclination is Jonas, Nara, Astarra, Silhouette. I have really been wanting to try Jonas and although I have played with the other three, I haven't really been able to actually PLAY them here in PBF (as the games tend to end quickly).

Will roll 10d17 for Wizardry and first 4 unique for Astarra
Wizardry Astarra 10d17 = (14 + 7 + 16 + 14 + 10 + 1 + 16 + 17 + 8 + 17) = 120

10d19 for 4 Subterfuge for Silhouette
Subterfuge Sil 10d19 = (18 + 5 + 11 + 4 + 16 + 16 + 8 + 14 + 14 + 18) = 124

Wow, there are a lot of skills that are just terrible. On the other hand, I was able to be somewhat lucky and still have decent skills, just barely. There are 24 fatigue tokens, and the starting heroes have 18, so if I take Skilled and Tiger Tatoo that would leave me with 3 remaining. Skilled seems like the correct choice with Sil's ability to change her order to a rest consistently, Tiger Tattoo seems better than Berserker, even if Jonas starts with a higher Wound total, the OL will likely just kill Jonas rather than let him sit at 8 or less wounds. My actual profession is an Appraiser and I have yet to play with the skill in game. I want to test it out, to see how good it is (probably the wrong choice over Skilled, but lets have some fun).

As far as Nara goes, Alertness just seems like a poor mans extra attack skill. I have never played with the card and it would probably work a lot better if I can get her up to at least 5F, but I want to be getting her something like Knight and Unmovable anyway, so I don't think an extra way to spend fatigue is good in the long run. The more I talk about it out loud, the less I like it. It seems like the OL can play around Brawler pretty easily. To be honest, I have never used the skill, but there is likely a reason I think Tough, although not the greatest, is good enough.

Now it comes to Astarra, although she is a great runner/activator of the glyph, she still packs a good punch as an attacker. Inner Fire and Prodigy are both fine skills to take in this instance and both work well with Sunburst. At the end of the day surges are more important though, so I think I will go with Prodigy.
