The Marvel HeroClix game was still in progress, so Joe and I opted for this
new Richard Borg game, part of the 2-player Kosmos series of games. I had
the opportunity to play several times and the Gathering and thoroughly
enjoyed the experience. Interestingly, Joe had also played at the
Gathering, but was incorrectly taught that a player could only play cards on
his side of the rope. So, he was anxious to play the game with the correct
rules, but suspected that he would enjoy it more with the incorrect rule!
We agreed to play two sets of games. The first set, we played using the
correct rules wherein players can play cards to both sides of the rope. I
managed to sweep Joe 3-0 in the first set, winning two matches by catching
him with Nessie in play and promptly playing the action card which causes
the beast to devour his teammates!
In the second set, we played by the rule wherein you can only play cards
onto your side of the rope. Joe enjoys this version as he feels it forces
players to better manage their hand of cards. Although it certainly
introduces other considerations into the game and is enjoyable, I still
prefer the rules as written. This rule severely limits a player's options
and, in my opinion, are too restrictive. Joe captured the first match in
this set, but I took the next three to win 3 - 1.
Game 1: Greg 3, Joe 0
