(This is a continuation of a story that started here: Lini and Merisiel take down Pillbug (0.2)).

It seemed like just another day. Neither Merisiel nor Lini had any idea what horrors awaited them in the tunnels of the runelords.

Lini started in the hall of greed, since she didn't have any items to lose. Very quickly, she found Xyoddin the henchman. She had several attack spells available, so she killed him, and closed the location. A good start.

Merisiel had misplaced all her weapons again, but fortunately she had her Revelation Quill. She started in the hall of Gluttony, and revealed a couple barriers, a Raise Dead spell, and a couple useless items. At least she knew she didn't need her weapon for a bit. She took on the Ambush barrier (with her Masterwork Tools), and cleared out the useless items. Then she headed over to the hall of Sloth, so Lini could come over and deal with second barrier, which was a cache of spells.

Lini happily popped open the cache, and got 4 spells, but none were great. She got a Detect Evil, Restoration, and a couple arcane attack spells. Oh well. She used her magic spyglass to reveal Ordikon. What was the guardian of Greed doing in the hall of Gluttony? Either way, she noted where he was, but knew it was better not to attack yet.

Merisiel burned her holy candle to get 4 hours back. Then she worked the hall of sloth for a while, and eventually found Azaven (again, why was the guardian of Gluttony over in the Sloth hall?) She evaded him, but kept an eye on him, and went back to Pride.

When Merisiel found Jordimandus (the guardian of sloth, slumming in the hall of pride), Lini headed to the hall of Sloth, to temporarily close it. Merisiel defeated Jordimandus, forcing him to run to the hall of gluttony (which was right where they wanted him). By closing Pride, they missed out on a Charmed Red Dragon ally, but perhaps that was for the best.

Closing the Pride hall allowed Merisiel to retrieve her holy candle (and she used it to get 3 more hours), her revelation quill (not that useful since they knew where the villains were), and her Emerald Codex. Earlier her codex had provided Guidance, Scrying, and Consecration. This time, she got Find Traps, Augury, and Raise Dead. Not a great selection, but the augury was helpful, and the scrying wasn't terrible.

They had tons of time left (about 18 hours), and they had 2 locations closed and knew where the villains were. One was right on top, and the other 2 were in a 4-card deck. But now the gals had a big problem: Azaven was in the hall of Sloth, which made him extremely dangerous. Merisiel couldn't take him on, because she only had 6 cards left in her deck, and would have had about a 25% chance of dying. Lini needed to find a cure or a holy light, but they were all hiding somewhere in her thick deck.

After several turns, Lini grabbed Mokmurian's Club. With the help of a blessing from Merisiel, she could roll 4d10 to try to get 25. Unfortunately, Lini's animals were feeling slothful, and she didn't realize she could have them help her with the attack. She attacked, discarded a card off her deck, and failed with a 21. Her Sihedron medallion took the damage, so a couple turns later, she tried again. This time, she discarded 3 cards from her deck...including BOTH of her Cure spells. And then with her 4d10 she rolled a 7. Doh! After taking her damage and resetting, her deck was empty. She missed dying by a sliver.

That was it. With 17 blessings left, they had no choice but to limp away to regroup for another attempt later. This was the first time they had ever failed to complete a mission, and it was very disappointing. Even more so when they realized that they probably would have succeeded if Lini had realized she could use her animal. At least now they knew what awaited them, and they could do a better job next time. To prepare, they traded blessings so that whoever felt slothful could be helped out more by the other.

They removed 9 boons and 2 banes.

Lini was really bummed that her new eagle pal didn't wake up until after they already knew exactly where the villains were. Generally, her cards came out in a terrible order through the whole session.
