Hello all,
Just a question, maybe someone can help me with. What good are Squad Leaders with positive modifiers +1 for example. I know that they can at least rally broken squads, using their modifier in the process. What else are they really good for?

Once again, thanks,
e burden

Delivering DC packages.
Using their extra movement to run behind enemy lines and cause routing issues.

I do see your points, I just assumed the only thing they were good for was as a Sniper Decoy? I appreciate the answers to my question.

Thanks Again,

They can also strip/deny concealment.
Or use an ATR and go tankette hunting.

Bluff.

Patch exclaimed "I've been afraid of him?", when the Italian "?" that had been moving aggressively on his flank was finally revealed to be a 6+1 leader instead of a squad....

One usually is not much afraid of an Italian concealed unit, anyway.

I was speaking of the world of ASL.
Not of the real one.
(Being Swiss myself, I would not dare elaborate a lot about the feats of the Swiss army during WW2)

Or an espresso... Have you had a good Italian espresso? Yum. They should have been using those as enticements for the Russians in WWII.

Only a Flamethrower, IIRC.

Nope. On the surface, the +1 drm and the 1 column shift would seem to be a wash. But there may be times when it's advantageous (to avoid a 2 column shift for inexperienced units, avoid losing ROF of a SW, or avoid placing a Final Fire marker in defensive fire, for example).

Couldn’t speak to the exploits of the Swiss army but, if I’m not mistaken, the Swiss air force got into a dust up with the Luftwaffe and gave Goring’s pilots’ a black eye.

Or when Leadership is required, such as firing an MG beyond 16 hexes.

I love little questions like this that spark my creativity and knowledge.

Our couple of Messerschmitts 109 did shoot down some of theirs, I believe.

Especially if you need to lay a Firelane, one of my favourite uses when leaders are scarce. (Leader directs LMG First Fire, Squad reserves IFP for other tasks, and no +1 mod on squad fire.)

Another important use is for Recovering a Gun/SW, especially from a broken unit.

Quote:
A4.44 ...Only a SMC can Recover a SW/Gun possessed by a friendly broken unit, and does this by rolling a Recovery Final dr of < 6 (∆) in its RPh/MPh without need of MF expenditure; if a unit surrenders, is eliminated, or routs away and cannot carry its SW, an Infantry SMC can immediately Recover one of that Infantry unit's SW/Guns in this same manner but regardless of phase.

Works great in MPh/RtPh because SMC often has opportunity to transfer to another unit during the APh.
