Hi Ralph. Congrats on the early funding!

However, it seems quite expensive and I'm not sure what "lots of new features" entails. I see a new player board/mat but the Kickstarter page (and the rules PDF) doesn't explain what exactly that adds; how is the board used?

It looks like the main difference is just larger tiles and new packaging. Is there any chance of just getting a normal reprint at a more reasonable price? I think that would do extremely well.

I own one of the first print run. And have a friend with one of the next print run.

Both where less then half the price of this one. To be honest if you don't get a early bird it was 1/3 of the price.

Am I missing something here? Is this an oversized version like takeno special edition or something? Just curious if I am overlooking something.

I love the game, but this is isn't very exciting, is it? Basically, we are just getting clumsy larger tiles, unless we get into stretch goals and higher levels. And even then, we have slightly different designs for the wooden pieces, a heavy wooden box, a weird hut-shaped box that will be a pain to store, an unnecessary central board and useless player boards. I'm happy you didn't tempt me with detailed plastic buildings, because, at that price point, I wouldn't buy it anyway.

Have you purchased from gamesurplus. I have and shipping was never that high

I ordered agents of Smersh and expansion. Shipping was 18 and they refunded half. So 9. Not bad for how heavy that was

How about a $20-$30 level for the regular-sized edition?

$100 for any game that doesn't include a dearth of many minis (even super-sized) is asking a lot.

Edit: I'm an idiot.

But it DOES include a dearth of minis:
Quote:
dearth

a scarcity or lack of something.
"there is a dearth of evidence"
synonyms: lack, scarcity, shortage, shortfall, want, deficiency, insufficiency, inadequacy, paucity, sparseness, scantiness, rareness; absence
"a dearth of trained specialists"

It has lots of miniature pieces of land and miniature buildings.

Seems to me to simply be a bit of free-market capitalism at work.

Ferti recognized that demand for this game wildly outstripped supply... people were paying $100 or more for new (or used copies). So they decided to resupply the market, but increase the price dramatically. Now instead of paying $100 for a used copy, you can pay $100 for a brand new copy with enhanced (or at least enlarged) components.

Easily $50 in today's market. The travel edition might go for $40.

Yeah but still a far cry from $100. I was really hoping the Kickstarter would be for around $40 or $45.

brand new copies are now popping up for $65 shipped in the states. weird.

i backed and will wait and see what all info comes out about the deluxeness of the deluxe. Would have happily backed for a regular version though. maybe i should just grab one on the marketplace and be done with it.

I'm really shocked that isn't an option. Why not just do a straight up reprint, even as a basic pledge.

I'm even more shocked it is funded already with many people paying upwards of $200 and even almost $600. As "deluxes" go, I just don't see this as anything special.

To each their own. I am quite happy with my birthday gift in 2008 of what I suspect was at or just under MSRP at that time.

Maybe a reprint was already in the pipeline and will be out long before the deluxe ships?

Only played this game after it went OOP. Really liked it. Hoped it would came back in print. Was so excited when Eagle/Gryphon said they'd be importing the new version!

Then horribly disappointed that they made it exclusive to Funagain (for a while) and charged almost double its original MSRP. Gave up on it.

Was excited to hear of a larger size coming, not only for the larger size, but also because I thought it might drive down the price of the smaller version.

But almost $100? That brought out the misanthrope in me in a big way.

Likelihood that the "smaller" version will drop in price? Slim.

I mean, someone is out to gouge, it looks like.

I like this game at perhaps $40. Anything else is just nuts.

What a wreck.. Where to start:

- bigger tiles that add very little to the gameplay, and much to the game's footprint

- terribly expensive, with no base version that a salaried family man can afford

- useless stretch goals: a hut that cannot be stored anywhere, redesign of the tiles (Wow!), several different variations of the deluxe box with a better lock and edges (Wow!), and a board with 3 different areas (Wow!)

- segregated stretch goals so 100+ bucks buys you only a portion of these goals

- ...

This is, for me, the new poster child for how Kickstarter baiting works. It will probably turn off a lot of people, me including. Strike one for Eagle and Ferti.

Still, they funded, so good on them. I suggest a Siam version with live elephants next, or a "For Sale" version with a deluxe island residence to store your money and building cards in.
