So as we can see from the thread there are a few of us now who have updated or already had updated their wants and trades. Not telling anyone to suck eggs here but just some thoughts I'd like to share about the SuperFootyTradingWeekend

1. Investigating the trade
There are many ways to find a trade. One method is to go straight to the trade manager http://www.boardgamegeek.com/trademgr.php3?action=tradefinde... and follow the options. One I like using is Custom Search which allows you to select the country and also to match against your collection. You never know, you might just be willing to trade Puerto Rico for a mint condition PayDay.

Another way would be to look at active members collections directly and seeing what they have to offer, their wants and their non trade fodder. Just because you don't match doesn't mean a deal can't be struck

I'd stick with active geeks too. Just a little safer and more likely to get a prompt response

2. Make an offer
Two ways to do this I feel. Use the trade manager to make an offer and set the limit of days it is to last. Since some people may be going away this weekend I'd set a longer threshold then three days but it's your call.

Another way that works successfully is geekmailing the user with an offer and discussing it over geekmail (and a thought that has sprung to mind would also me using geekchat-extreme chat with GROGnads present or in a private room). Once the deal is agreed put it through the trade manager to officialise it and that way you can build up your trade feedback rating.

And like our beloved Roos fan says. They can only say No!!

3. Have fun
I see this as being a fun way to get new games for ones that you ain't lovin anymore for whatever reason. Postage costs would be kept down to a point but our Perth brothers and sisters will surely foot the postage bill when the Eagles win-hey I'm just saying what the bookies are telling me.

4. Keep communicating

I think this is the key one. One of the things that may occur is that you make multiple offers with your trade fodder. I'd try to avoid it but if you kept the communication up and used geekmail I think you could probably get away with it. I mean you wouldn't want to have your Poisson d'avril out there with sbszine waiting for him to say yes but he's away for the next week at a DJ seminar-"Mix and Mash-Neo Punk fusion and Czech House-They said it was not possible" and you could have traded it with me.

Keep your possible traders in the loop of your discussion. I think there's nothing wrong with saying stuff like "If I don't hear from you in x days I'll offer it elsewhere" or chasing people up and advising them that you are offering to others. Likewise it's good form to come back quickly to those that have offered and say yay or nay or interested but show me some more lovin big boy.

5. Get Cracking

So I'll be starting with some geekmails tonight so in the classic word of Milo and his brood-Enjoy!

Well I'm not getting any love from our North American gamers so this is a call out to all those Aussie gamers that have games sitting there-yes there-gathering dust, in shrink, or unloved in some way.

It's a gaming trading spring clean out and I'm in a trading mood.

If you are interested in trading some games I suggest you update your profile with wants and trades by this Friday 29th. Then over the long weekend while the Storm are smashing the Broncos, the Swans soaring over the Eagles and who cares about the winner of the APC we can use the trade manager and propose some trades amongst ourselves.

Hope you all are keen. If someone has a better idea or way of handling this then lets get it out there.

I've been having really good luck trading with shawn_low.
I think the main problem with not hearing from North American gamers is the shipping to Down Under is so frelking high! Shawn has had some great stuff, so it makes the trade worthwhile. And, he doesn't think I'm a wonk for liking North Melbourne!

Good on ya Shebby. The more the merrier. I could be wrong but make sure you put a want list together and not wishlist. I think the trade manager only works with Wanted items.

No one thinks you're a wonk Tim-even if you do like the Roos

I have done one Nth American trade and it went fantastically but you are right the shipping is horrendous especially since the shipping may be close to the cost of the game you want in the states!

And Shawn does have a wonderful collection for trade. In fact if he takes part I can see him being the focal point for the spring clean out.

I think I also want to get more trading activity going on here-can only be good for the hobby.

I like your thinking Neil. My trade and want lists are always pretty up to date and I'm always happy to look for a trade, especially in Sydney ...

My trades & wants are future current (I even have listed stuff for trade that hasn't arrived in my hads yet! )

Something not in my trades - I have the FX Schmid version of Adel Verpflichtet & would love to trade it for the Alea version...

Re: C'mon Aussie C'mon-Aussie Trades
I have only ever bought games from another BGG user in Aus. How do trades work? I assume it is what it sounds like, "I will give you Through the Dessert and you give me Monsters Menace America" type thing.

As I am new to the collection I have nothing to trade! But is it bad form if you see a game for trade to offer to trade cash?

Almost my entire "collection" was bought in a spring clean from a user here...and I have never been more pleased! But I don't want to offend anyone who prefers a straight swap

Take my word for it; no one will be offended. The worst that can happen is that someone will say no. However, I strongly recommend that you get that to trade list going; nothing says "I'm not interested" like an empty trade list!

Re: C'mon Aussie C'mon-Aussie Trades
I'm in, although my for trade list is fairly limp - but I have decided to trade Torres, so it can't be so bad.

What IS bad is the state of AFL and NRL. No home teams in the world capitals of RL and AFL? Awful. I'd be willing to trade Hannibal for a Melbourne Demons premiership. Any takers?

Oh, just worked it out.
I am SO lame!!!

And OTT - How sad did the Cowboys go after the amazing start to their season? I was hoping for a re-play of the GFinal from last year.
Sad sad sad.
Maybe next year? (Hopefully no more drugs for the boys after Mitchell Sarge got kicked. Naughty boy!)

Sold! Drop Hannibal around & I'll guarantee you a Demon's premiership, although not this year (obviously)..

Err, it is an English copy of Hannibal, isn't it?

All updated. Added a bunch of games I'm even fond of, in a never-get-to-play-them-anyway sort of way.

Thanks Neil, for getting us moving.

Updated - Mine's all pretty easy, only got San Juan and Jack the Ripper up for trade.

Whats a simple way to view all the Aussie trades/wants? Using the custom search button only brings up exact matches.

There's no way you need two copies of Hannibal Russell. But it's in Gaelic, if you must know.

Besides, nothing you can say would be able to convince me of a Demons Premiership.

Speaking about German versions - your Lord of the Rings version for trade is English or German?

England winning the ashes was like a novice beating a WBC Paths of Glory champion - it has to happen one day, but you know it won't ever happen again.

My money is on a 4-0 Australian win (one rained out draw, probably in Brisbane or Sydney).
