EDIT: Updated April 11, 2015. New material and notes in red.

Since I've been digging through the old Variants threads the past few days, I got curious to see what *I* had posted. A few dozen threads, at it turns out! Factoring in stuff from the other forums, I think I'm at about a thread a week. Apparently, I have too much time on my hands!

Anyway, for my sanity (or perhaps insanity!), I've collected all my threads. I've tried to collect them into concepts, starting with the previous two times I gathered my various threads:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1222895/gweks-projects-late-...
- An overview of what I was working on during the summer. Sadly, a lot of things are STILL dragging on!

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1133785/gweks-grand-plans-fe...
- An overview of what I was working on in March. Sadly, a lot of things are dragging on!

LOCAL COLOR: The first (and currently only "officially-released") product from "the House of GWEK."

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1116752/local-color-new-deck
- I think this was my first official thread for the deck (after the discussion started by ElectronicDad and MrDave’s thread). The final version can be found in the Files section, posted by Corvin, or at Artscow.

ACES & EIGHTS: Before there was LOCAL COLOR there was ACES & EIGHTS... And apparently, long after LOCAL COLOR, there is STILL ACES & EIGHTS. The perfectionist in me is making it a long road to printing. But hopefully once I DO finalize things, this and the next few expansions will fall quickly into place.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1092658/virtual-expansion-ac...
- I think this is the newest one. * RECENTLY UPDATED *

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1174022/please-help-playtest...
- An outdated thread.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1077537/aces-eights
- I think this was the original thread.

BLACK MARKET: The projected follow up to ACES & EIGHTS. And in the works almost as long.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1252714/coming-2015-black-ma... * RECENTLY UPDATED *
- Newer thread with some updated cards.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1121339/virtual-expansion-3-...
- First official thread.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1114853/custom-crew-cards
- A bunch of Crew and Gear, mostly from the Riddick and Alien franchises, that lead to the idea of The Black Market.

SHIP PACKS: Another series of expansions that should roll fairly quickly once I shake out the printing details of ACES & EIGHTS... the first two, anyway.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1182154/white-lightning
- Thread for Ship Pack #1 - White Lightning.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1331714/white-lightning-...
- Thread with an updated version of the Crew.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1183674/cantankerous
- Thread for Ship Pack #2 - CanTankerous. * RECENTLY UPDATED *

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1212800/huntingdons-bolt
- Thread for Ship Pack #3 - Huntingdon's Bolt.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1307581/more-scoundrels-...
- Thread for Ship Pack #4, the Crew of the Betty from Alien: Resurrection.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1334239/jolly-rajah-ship...
- Thread for a potential all-ruthless Crew - the Jolly Rajah./COLOR]

[COLOR=#FF0000]http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1301430/ships-playtestin...
- Why not playtest some of the ships from the ship packs?

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1188615/expansion-ideas-ship...
- Thread discussing Ship packs in general.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1212824/ship-packs-how-do-th...
- Another general thread.

"THEY'VE ALL GOT STORIES" - An idea for a deck of passengers who can be picked up outside of standard jobs:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1297116/theyve-all-got-s...

THE COUNCILOR - AN IDEA FOR A NEW CONTACT SUPPORTING LEGAL PLAY
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1282693/councilor-idea-n...

WORKING FOR YOURSELF - AN IDEA FOR FINDING WORK OUTSIDE OF CONTACTS
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1312192/working-yourself

FAVORS - AN IDEA FOR A NEW TYPE OF "Gear"
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1349062/favors-idea-new-...

RANDOM CREW IN SEARCH OF A HOME: Some Crew I created without having a home in mind. Many will probably find their way into The Black Market, or perhaps a later release.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1227071/miscellaneous-cr...
- About a dozen Crew, including a number of Triad Crew. Many of them will probably find their way into The Black Market. * RECENTLY UPDATED *

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1222852/some-folks-comics
- Bea, Sanda, Ott and his Crew of miscreants. Fodder for The Black Market, perhaps.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1340648/other-leaders-ba...
- Various leaders, most of whom appeared in earlier threads in some form.

LEADER DISADVANTAGES/GORRAMMIT!: The idea I liked so much I kept pushing it every few months until folks finally started responding. The idea here is a deck of random disadvantages that can be used in multiple ways - either assigned at the beginning of play to alter strategy, or in response to misfortune throughout the game.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1239700/complications-leader...
- The most recent version. Yep, that’s right. I kept putting it out there until it stuck. * UPDATED IN FEBRUARY WITH CARDS AND GUIDELINES *

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1273053/tying-together-few-i...
- A thread discussing a few ideas, including Leader Disadvantages, Loyalty tokens, and “degrading resources.”

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1207434/disadvantages-leader...
- I tried it again.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1148685/new-deck-idea-gorram...
- Original thread.

SOLO GAME-RELATED: As a regular solo player, I have a few thoughts on the concept...

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1078809/solo-campaign-idea
- My original notes on a solo campaign concept.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1161053/solo-quick-play-vari...
- Suggested solo story card.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1062656/variant-awful-lonely...
- Variant to make the official solo card a little more challenging.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1079335/first-time-captains-...
- Solo version of First Time in the Captain’s Chair.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1317154/alliance-cruiser...
- Guidelines for "AI" for the Reaver Cutters and Alliance Cruiser for use in solo or games where folks don't feel right about sending ships at each other.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1319298/solo-rules-saffr...
- Guidelines for using Saffron in a solo game.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1340077/merchant-ships
- An idea for adding NPC merchant ships to the game. Useful for making Piracy viable in a solo or slow game.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1347664/random-timer
- Idea for a random timer for the game... Intended for solo use, but you could use it in a regular game, too.

HOUSE RULES: Some of my more developed house rules (many of which will be included in the official printing of ACES & EIGHTS).

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1257194/cards-house-rules
- Most recent version of most of my house rules – although Ruthless Crew is not included.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1276022/thoughts-making-game...
- Springboarding off some of my house rules, some thoughts on making the game a little quicker.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1075300/gweks-house-rules
- An older version of some of my house rules, but I think it has the most recent version of Mutiny.

RESOURCES: Some resources, mostly breaking down how things work, generally with the intention of using that understanding for variants.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1185298/ship-building-not-qu...
- A formula for Ship building and pricing.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1186123/crew-building-not-ea...
- A formula for Crew-building and accurate pricing.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1251834/career-bonuses-jobs-...
- Breakdown of what the profession-based bonuses represent (with an eye toward using the knowledge for customs).

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1255266/whats-story-card
- Analysis of how the story cards break down and are structured (again, with an eye toward using that knowledge for variants).

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1346211/custom-wanted-ca...
- Custom Wanted Cards... like, a new template, not the actual cards (although some samples are included).

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1347726/updated-spreadsh...
- Link to my master Excel document, collecting a lot of stuff from the game.

IS CRIME TOO POWERFUL?: A few threads around the premise that Crime is so very potent and other options can't compete. Most of the threads discuss options to help bolster other strategies a bit.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1135709/crime-vs-well-anythi...
- Comparing Crime to other options. We all know where this is headed.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1163937/ideal-ship-alternati...
- A discussion of “ideal ship alternatives.” What would a ship maximized for Transport, Smuggling, Shipping, or Legal Jobs look like?

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1174661/speed-load-options-s...
- Discussion of options to make delivery jobs faster.

KID-FRIENDLY STUFF: My daughter and I play sometimes. So here's some stuff that we've used.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1076508/kid-friendly-version
- A kid-friendly variant that I play with my daughter sometimes.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1127264/crew-house-mouse
- Crew cards for newer Disney characters. I also did the Octonauts but never posted ‘em.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1303928/star-wars-rebels
- Crew cards for the gang from Star Wars: Rebels.

OTHER: Different concepts I've been working on that don't quite fit anywhere else, although most of them probably fit into my theoretical "campaign guide."

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1278954/loyalty-tokens-gweks...
- Loyalty tokens!

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1096580/side-quests

- An idea for Crew relationships to spice things up a bit.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1159859/finales-existing-sto...
- An idea for adding “finales” to make story cards more complex, especially for solo play.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1082058/endgame-too-easy
- Discussion about how the game can become anticlimactic. (Relates to the idea of finales above.)

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1075076/whos-my-shipwhats-bo...
- A theoretical idea to spice up delivery jobs.

OUTDATED THREADS: Although some of the threads above are also out of date, the one below have mostly been replaced or outmoded by newer ideas (some official, some not).

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1071611/other-ships-black
- Early “NPC ship” thread.

- Speculation about how bounty hunting might work.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1061549/custom-crew-and-gear...
- Early ideas, including (I think) the first appearance of some form of “Ruthless.”

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1084311/new-custom-card-new-...
- Alternate card template.

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1068516/story-card-reap-whir...

George,

Is that all? whistle

But seriously I'm impressed with both the quantity AND quality of your output.

When I checked my subscriptions this morning you were mentioned in 3 out of 5 of the threads!

In fact envious. Makes my 2 pence (cents) worth seem just that.

Keep up the great work.

a tad busy, haven't you been. I will confess that some of your material I am a big fan of, others not so much, but that's what I like about your work, it covers a wide range of creativity. I would thank you for posting this thread, gives me a central location to look over all of your material.

Thanks, Dave. One thing to keep in mind about my stuff - virtually all the ones that are successful are successful because of community feedback and interest, so your 2 pence can often pay huge dividends!

LOCAL COLOR came out of a discussion that a) I didn't start, and b) was originally more about making Make-Work more interesting. Without that conversation, I doubt LOCAL COLOR would exist (and wouldn't exist in it's current version without Corvin's timely intervention). Similarly, THE BLACK MARKET sprang up in response to a question (I believe posed by MrDave, but I'd have to go back to the thread to confirm).

Point is, conversations with folks like you, MrDave, JonSnow, HarleighDhai, ReverendKillJoy, iaisu, electronicdad, and everyone else here has a huge impact on my thinking, on where I want to focus my efforts, etc. I happen to have picked this game as my guilty hobby (since Star Wars minis are long gone and my RPG game is on hiatus), but it on only works because of conversation and mutual interest.

I know that not everything will be for everyone. As I indicate to Dave, though, I'm always interested in feedback, so if you have thoughts on what works for you and what doesn't -- as well as why -- I'm always happy to hear it.

And, to some extent giving you guys a "central location" DOES have a bit of an ulterior motive. I'll be curious to see which older ideas, if any, get revived.

Like many, I have been thoroughly impressed with your work, and would love to make use of a lot of it.

However, when considering what specific variants to include, I look for things that are nearly completely modular. I do not have the ability to integrate additional cards into exisiting, gf9 decks. (I know that ability exists, via sleeving, but I do not have the resouces to do that at this point.) This means that new decks (like Local Color) or other separate components are most likely to be used at my table.

Thus, physical modularity is a very important factor in my evaluation.

In your world, I have another name. You must learn to know me by it. That was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.

A quick update (and I guess this may be the best place for it): many of my projects are currently delayed because I'm a perfectionist and trying to get my templates and the related printing process down cold.

My cousin and I spent a while working on things this weekend, and will definitely get more time in over the holidays. We're getting close, and once we get finished, ACES & EIGHTS and the first two ship packs (CANTANKEROUS and WHITE LIGHTING) will be available for printing soon thereafter.

If you have the opportunity to playtest or comment on those three projects over the next few weeks, it's much appreciated.

Heh. Is this a link to provide on a resume with Gale Force Nine?

Seriously though, I've not read the majority of the topics in this forum but in my brief time here I do look forward to you posts. This thread makes it easier! Many thanks.

It would certainly be cool if an upcoming GF9 expansion included some of your ideas. I do think they would be wise to watch this forum; there are numerous good ideas, many deserving of a full development, testing, and production cycle.

A quick update: As anticipated, my cousin and I got a lot of work done over the holiday break. He just sent me a revised version of our Crew template today and is working on card backs.

Our next major step will be to print some sample cards with Artscow to check for color, bleeds/size, etc. Assuming the test goes well, we should be able to apply that knowledge to Gear/Ship Upgrades fairly quickly and have ACES & EIGHTS ready to go after that.

If anyone wants to contribute technical know-how, I'm happy to take on additional assistance.

First posted updated.

To loop folks in on the Artscow saga, I ordered test cards in early March, but for various reasons it took over a month for them to get to me.

My cousin and I reviewed the contents this weekend, and we have some adjustments to make to improve the quality a little more. I'm hoping to order more test cards this week.
