I'm always curious what people's motivations are for voting for old games like Acquire. Is it a joke? Did they discover the game for the first time at bgg.con? Do they vote for it because it's their favorite game?

How many unique voters were there?

Maybe because it's a good game? Do you feel the buzz should only serve the cult of the new?

...so Lap Dance is an even better game? Since it has a 12.

Don't put words in my mouth (or keyboard in this case). Nowhere did I, nor do I, claim that any game on the list is better than any other.

Generation of buzz merely means someone played a game, and said "wow, I like that", and went to the geekbuzz site and put in a good word for it.

I'll be very surprised if there are two games that were higher on the list than Acquire that are still being played when they're as old as Acquire is today.

It's not like I'm the arbitrator of what GeekBuzz IS or anything, but now that you bring it up GeekBuzz for Essen really only has new games released at Essen. Firmly planting that in cult of the new territory.

When I think "buzz" I think games that aren't well known. Just by using that word it seems to imply cult of the new, no? Games that people should take a look at and Acquire is a classic so mostly people are aware of it.

If I was alone in that assumption then the top games on BGG would rocket to the top of GeekBuzz every year wouldn't they?
And before anyone tries to disprove that with Terra Mystica on the list, the expansion just came out so I see those as votes for the expansion more than the base game.

Edit: also you seem to see some malice in my question. I'm not against people voting for it, but I don't know what those votes are motivated by. Are they mocking GeekBuzz by voting for this? Did hey just find out this classic exists? Do they basically log their games played by voting for them? Do they vote for their top 10 games every year even if they don't play them?

Do they have to be new to you? If someone asked you to play a game you already like would you vote for it on GeekBuzz too? If so, why do you require yourself to play it at bgg.con to vote for it on GeekBuzz?

Edit: I'm really just asking the questions. Sometimes people ask questions as a coded "justify yourself to me!" I'm really just wondering what people see its purpose is.

The most common definition online seems to be some variation on, "Anything that creates excitement or stimulus." Some people are excited about older games (e.g., maybe they are excited by playing a classic game that they have enjoyed in the past in the new environment of BGG.CON with new people) and some people are excited about newer games.

Only if enough people are excited by them.

Nope, doesn't have to be new to me. GeekBuzz doesn't give me any guidelines (unlike Geek ratings), so I make my own. That's what I decided on.

I do not think it means what you think it means.

Whenever you become anxious or stressed, outer purpose has taken over, and you have lost sight of your inner purpose. Your state of consciousness is primary. All else is secondary.

Why do you require yourself to play it at bgg.con to vote for it on GeekBuzz?

BGGcon GeekBuzz tells people what is being played and enjoyed at BGGcon. (That is my take. YMMV) I don't limit my votes to new games because it provides more info to include all games people are playing and enjoying.

Why not vote for good old games that are not being played? Because they are not being played is my answer.
