I don't think there is any doubt -- Puerto Rico has been the most popular
game to hit our table in the past several years. If Funkenschlag was a bit
shorter, it might also compete for this honor, but its 3 1/2 - 4 hour time
duration means that it doesn't hit the table anywhere near as often as
Puerto Rico. It certainly appears that designer Andreas Seyfaerth used the
past several years very productively!

I've been hoping to get Tom into a few more 'meaty' games, so lunged at the
opportunity to introduce him to Puerto Rico. Andrew and Ashton were also
new to the game, with Jim and I being the only veterans. Both of us
provided helpful hints and guidance during the course of the game, but we
didn't try to dominate the game and allowed players to make their own
decisions.

I felt very comfortable about my own position, but knew that Jim was also
doing very well. Jim acquired two quick 'bonus' buildings and I feared a
runaway was developing. However, I was also able to secure two of them. My
hope was that Tom would pick up the final one, but he fell one dollar short
of being able to secure it before Jim. Jim grabbed the third building, but
wasn't able to occupy it before the game ended. Still, it earned him
another 4 victory points.

Unfortunately, we mis-tallied the victory points for the Guild Hall,
counting the bonus violet buildings as 'large' buildings. This earned Jim
an extra 6 points he shouldn't have earned. Normally, this would have
resulted in a tie between Jim & I, but since we had discussed the Guild Hall
bonus prior to the beginning of the game, it was only fair to count those
points as earned, giving Jim the victory.

Finals: Jim 51, Greg 45, Tom 35, Andrew 29, Ashton 29

Ratings: Jim 9, Greg 9, Tom 7.5, Andrew 7, Ashton 7
