not sure if this is covered in the instruction book.

So we all leave the colony, there are no helpless survivors. so the zombies come and have no one to kill. What is stopping the players from just doing the mission and killing zombies at the out of area locations.

Then you don,t have to worry about food, as well as a few other things.

You add 1 zombie per character outside the colony and just 1 zombie for 2 characters in colony in add zombies phase...

Yeah in most games it becomes difficult to do any meaningful searching with everyone out of the colony bc of how quickly the zombie horde grows at each location.

Well, if you have four people on a location, that location is going to get four zombies. This is fine if it's just one location. A few sniper rifles plus a normal attack or two and you'll handle them. But when every non-colony location is maxed out on zombies, there aren't enough dice to handle all of them. Suddenly you're panicking to clear as many as you can, that costs dice, then you're building barricades, more dice and it's just a stopgap. Eventually you'll be overrun and this entire time you're spending all your dice to keep zombies back and not doing any meaningful searching.

It's a bad idea.

Yeah, it's 1 to 1 adding zombies outside of the colony, but only .5 to 1 at the Colony.

The cards you play still go to the waste, and with noone there, you cannot clean the waste. So at least one person would have to leave a survivor back. Just one survivor at the colony will result in a overrun in 4 turns, as each round the zombies get added to the entrances in order, so 1 goes into entrance 1 every round. So then that survivor needs to keep those zombies in check on top of cleaning waste every turn. So you would have to convince someone to give up multiple dice every round, which means they aren't working on their secret goal efficiently.

Plus, generally players with survivors at the Colony get to vote on Crossroad cards, so if I was the only guy with a survivor there, I would be making all the decisions (which could be very bad).

As others have stated, you are trading off the lower food demand with an increase in zombies to deal with. Only 1 zombie is added to the colony for every two survivors in the colony. However, 1 zombie is added to the outside locations for every 1 survivor. So while you can often lay back and let zomebies pile up a bit at the colony, there is much more zombie pressure at outside locations.

Also, maybe you explained something wrong, but if there is nobody at the colony, you wouldn't add any zombies at all there. Not sure what you mean by zombies show up but there is nobody to kill. If nobody is there, zombies shouldn't be showing up at all.

People gave reasons why not to do this, but if you did this, no zombies would come.
