Hi

so whats the 'official' skin color of the drow. There are some pictures in the gallery and most of them seem to depict them very dark.
Which colors are you guys using? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Most of the art shows them as a grayish white.

That said, in lore and in the Drizzt series, they are described as black skinned (like midnight black) with stark white hair.

Granted skin tones vary slightly, but your typical skin tone is a deep gray to black.
Have to think, most never see the topside, much less the sun.

Maybe go with a deep dark gray with some black wash and lighter gray drybrush/highlights?

Definately black. Wouldn't do anything lighter cause then it starts looking gray.

And gray isn't very stealthy in the Underdark

I normally use charcoal base and then wash black.

Actually dark grey is better camo in darkness than pure black. It's a fact, ask any ninja. Also, it's been found that creatures living in the deep underground have very very pale skin some even translucent skin. Scientifically, drow should have extremely pale/translucent skin. From a thematic sense though, I can understand how their immoral culture and worship of vile gods could have tainted their skin black as evil. Cause everybody knows bad guys wear black, right.

Edit: If you're looking to paint your drow, I recommend Reaper paints, Dark Elf Shadow with the highlight followed by a wash of Nightmare Black makes a nice flat black skin for drow. The Dark Elf Triad is nice too but maybe not black enough.

"Officially" it's black. As in REAL black. However, if you are going to paint it "black" you are going to need a lot of other "almost black" colours to make it *look* black. Black isn't easy to do. Look at some of the suggestions here and look at a LOT of black imagery, especially other paintings. You might find that you'll need some deep purples and blues as highlights in order to get the skin tones to look "black".

How many ninjas do you know?

I used to know a couple, but I never see them anymore.
