It's like a Star Destroyer and a Tie Interceptor had some sort of cute hybrid baby.

----------

Quote:
Kuat Drive Yards began manufacturing the Raider-class corvette in 6BBY as a dedicated anti-fighter vessel after it was successfully pitched by Lira Wessex, the designer of the Imperial-class Star Destroyer. She recognized that the Imperial Navy lacked a small, modern craft to reinforce the TIE fighter squadrons deployed by Star Destroyers, and she designed the Raider-class corvette as a durable, 150m vessel that featured multiple hardpoints and would excel at suppressing Rebel fighter attacks.

Like the Rebellion’s huge ships, the GR-75 medium transport and CR90 Corellian corvette, the Raider is too big for Standard Play and the game’s standard 1/270 scale. Accordingly, the expansion’s Raider miniature is presented at a relative scale that makes it playable, even as it dwarfs the game’s small- and large-base ships.

In addition to the Raider-class corvette, the Imperial Raider Expansion pack also contains one TIE Advanced miniature with a variant paint scheme, eight ship cards, thirty-four upgrade cards, and all the maneuver dials, damage decks, tokens, and game pieces that you need to fly your Raider and its TIE Advanced escort. Finally, the expansion introduces a new campaign, The Will of the Empire, in which you’ll command a Raider-class corvette and run a prototype TIE Advanced through its test flights in the wild, lawless sectors of the Outer Rim.

I'm impressed that FFG had the guts to create something completely new. I like it, just never thought they would

Might only be new until next year.

Or less than a year if they introduce it somewhere in Star Wars Rebels http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2930604/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Personally, I love the design for this ship. I don't display any of my ships for this game, but there might be some shelf space for this one.

I even searched this forum to be sure it wasn't already posted. I always forget there are like ten other places that random stuff can be posted in. Thought it was neat, sorry for double posting .

It'd be nice if BGG had a meta forum for each game that just combined all the sub-forums, but when you post to it you had to pick a destination. It'd almost work like a tagging system. Would prevent this kind of thing, and probably be more user friendly.

It's going to be an absolute pain to paint under those TIE wings. It's bad enough on the little ones.

Here's hoping they're easy to pop off.

X-wing miniatures are all pre-painted.

Has anyone seen any info on how many epic points this thing takes up?

I would love to know that info as soon as possible...maybe the card point values too, but mainly just the number of epic points needed for this ship. I have a gaming source that can get me much better deals the sooner I pre-order from him, so it would be great to know the epic point value of this Raider, just to know if it is like the Transports where fielding two is a valid option, or like the Corvette where only one is legal.

Any estimates on size? My TIE Advanceds are on loan to a friend over the Christmas season so I can't really figure out a scale comparison. Seems like it may be slightly bigger than the transports but not as big as a Corvette, right?

I'm surprised that they designed a totally new ship that they still had to cheat in scale. If they were designing the ship special for this game, why not make it small enough to fit the starfighter scale? Or was matching the Corvette scale more important?

Yes, I think matching the scale of the Huge ships was the goal.

I can't say for certain, of course, but the Raider looks to me to be as long as the CR90, albeit not so "lumpy" and bulky. Judging from the bases, it's almost certainly a two-section ship.

Given that, and the offensive focus of "Star Destroyer" wedge-designs, I'd bet on it having CR90-ish costs, in both points and Epic points. If it's only 2 Epic points, I'll be shocked.

It's interesting that it doesn't have a turret primary. But the fire arcs definitely have better coverage than the CR90

Why would you even bother posting that? Everyone who plays the game knows they're pre-painted. Obviously I was referring to the fact that I planned on repainting the ship, which will be more difficult than it could be due to the TIE wings.

I really like this new ship, but at $70 for a preorder it'll have to wait until the Christmas bills are over with and paid for!

Too many cool things to buy...

No need to snap at me. How am I to know what you know or don't know about the game? Based on your comment it appeared to me that you were unaware this ship was prepainted. Sorry for trying to be helpful. Next time don't be a jackass in return.

Not this again...

I mean, I generally stick to OT stuff, but this is too good to pass up on. I suspect it will be 3 Epic points, leaving us just a glimmer of hope there will be another, smaller Imperial Epic ship coming in at 2 points similar to the transport.

The stands i.e. firing arches seem a bit weird at first glance, but I reckon they make perfect sense.

I like the arcs, you want to broadside with the CR90 and go head-on with the Raider.

The arcs are a little weird. Looks like there aren't any practical blind spots on the sides, as the gap between forward and side arcs is smaller than a small ship's base, so it basically has ~ 300° coverage. I guess the primary gun on the fore (and any equipped hard points) has to fire out that ~ 120° arc, while the hardpoints on the aft section fire more like a broadside, with arcs overlapping anything that's about 30-80° off axis (e.g. roughly 10-11 o'clock and 1-2 o'clock)... or whatever the correct term is.

What a bad time to get sick! Work has been incredibly slow and I have been trolling X-wing forums looking for entertainment. First my wife gets dreadfully sick, then the rest of us. I miss all the news and come in late.

I have to say that the Imperial Raider looks sweet! I will get one, for sure, as I'm sure will my regular opponent. We each have the CR-90, as wel, and I am looking forward to some fantastic Epic play. Throw in some Decimators and it will be a sweet, sweet fight. Even the Turbo Lasers will get some play. Still, the Ion Battery is just crazy cool. Giving a crit, especially on the big ships, will be nasty. I'd love to do 500 pt Epic with very few named pilots. So much fun...

Besides that, the fix for the Tie Advanced looks crazy good! I'm excited as I loved using Vader anyways, but now they will all be better. Vader will be great to use with Advanced Targeting Computer, Predator, and Engine Upgrade. The generics will still be useful with Auto Corrector to give them 2 hits each turn. They can spend their action on an evade each turn for extra durability.

Personally, I can't wait for it to come out.

I imagine that Maarek Steele + Predator + Adv Targeting Computer will be popular. For Vader, he could just use Accuracy Corrector and Engine Upgrade and he basically gets to take 2 defensive/repositioning actions every turn, as he never has to worry about using actions to improve his shot - he'll always "roll" 2 hits or better!

Can't wait to see the other unique TIE Advanced pilots.
