I'm trying to remember the name of a book I read when I was younger. This would have been the early 1980s at the latest, so the book would have to be older than that. I'm thinking it was published in the 1970s.

The story was about a low, low (really low) tide. The way I recall, it went out for miles. It wasn't a story about a tsunami, though; when the tide came back in, it came in like a normal tide, or at the very least, it came in swiftly without inundating the mainland. There were two boys who went out to explore the seabed, and I remember they came across one part that was deeper than the rest, and they had to swim across because it still retained a lot of water. They also had to escape a shark that stayed behind.

Anyone? I tried Goodreads and Google, but I'm not finding the right book. For what it's worth, it's not Low Tide by William Mayne.

Man, I think that might be it. How did you find it? I tried a number of different keyword combinations and kept coming up with that stupid Maynes book. Thanks!

I googled "book two boys weird low tide" and got a goodreads review as the 3rd result or so. Seeing Mickey Spillane as the author caught my eye. I didn't realize he took a stab at kids' books.

Damn, I forgot about the shark fight in that book! If I'd remembered, that would have been my suggestion for sure.
