I have some images that I want to use to make my own version of a game, but what I would like to do is keep the artwork in the picture, but change the color of the pictures. All of the images are composed of one primary color, and in some cases, I would like to change it from, say, purple to yellow. Is it possible to do this using the standard Windows software? I've tried using Paint and Word to do a couple of things, but it's not quite doing what I want it to do.

Any help would be appreciated; if it's something that works, it will also be tip-worthy.

If you are brave, you can download Gimp. It might not be good enough to for some graphic designers, but it's open source, and enough for most tasks.

I know of the GIMP, but have trouble working through it. Plus, I don't want to download anything to my work computer, so I was hoping it could be something I could use with standard software.

I played around with adjusting the hue in the Office Picture Manager, but I'm running into color issues, too, since I'm colorblind, and unsure if my colors are identical, or even the right colors that I want. Plus, some of them are washed out and don't look right when I adjust them.

This might even be something that I'll need help with. Thanks for the suggestions so far, though.

It is simple to use for what you need it to do.

trying to edit images with only windows-bundled software and doing so while colorblind seems entirely unrealistic. perhaps you could use magic. or perhaps someone else could make the changes for you.

I am not crazy about the Gimp. I find the UI too clunky. I prefer Photofiltre or Paint.Net.

If you can read French, Photofilter has a standalone app that does not need to install. Great for work computers.

There's a "non-install" version of the GIMP - in the sense that you can either put it on memory stick on a non-work machine, or put it in your own 'data' directory on a work machine, without having to meddle in c:\progra~1, the registry, or all the other nastiness Windows installers normally do. http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/gimp_portable - they have a bunch of other useful stuff tweaked in the same way.
