(This is a continuation of a story that started here: Lini and Merisiel take down Pillbug (0.2)).

On their way to defeat the evil Karzoug in his mountain city, Lini and Merisiel knew they would have to fight off the frost giants who were acting as Wardens of Runes.

Lini started in the Mountain Pass, as usual, knowing that her animal-aided wisdom allowed her to handle the dangers of the location itself. She didn't find much of interest at first.

Merisiel, who had forgotten to ready any weapons (again) started at the City Gate. Right away, she used her Revelation Quill to see what was ahead, and it revealed one of the Giant Wardens. Merisiel plotted a path where she and Lini could pick up some goodies before reaching the giant itself. Just before encountering the giant, they decided to deal with other locations first.

Lini returned to the peak, where she encountered her own Warden. Fortunately, she had just the right spell, and was able to defeat it. Glorofaex the dragon swooped in and fired electric bolts, but Lini's Sihedron Medallion absorbed them. The first location was closed.

Merisiel had gone to the Town Square, and found a battered chest. With the help of a blessing, she pried it open, and found some great stuff! Along with a basic token and a potion, she found a Sihedron Ring, and a Belt of Physical Might. The former gave her the courage to go take out the giant at the city gate. Ghlorofaex breathed on her, but the ring did its job and absorbed the damage. She easily defeated the bandit henchman, and a second location was closed.

Lini and Merisiel then split their time between the Town Square and the Heptaric Locus. Lini used a Holy Light to take out a Zombie Giant at the Locus, while Merisiel defeated a Warden of Thunder giant who happened to be strutting around the town square. Lini had picked up a spyglass, and was also surprised to have run into Brodert Quink, who was happy to join her. With those, plus her magic spyglass and her eagle (who showed up late again), she knew almost everything in both locations. Usually Brodert will only scout one location before disappearing, but for Lini and her charming cat, he happily scouted two locations, and was ready for more.

Lini had to defeat not one, but two Sneaks in the Locus. What was up with that? She also triggered a zombie hoard, which mildly annoyed Merisiel. Merisiel used her Emerald Codex, but was disappointed with the results: Scrying (too late), Consecration (blessings were too precious), and Domination (nothing left to evade). Merisiel was a bit low on health at one point, but Lini's cure spells (including a Major Cure she found) came in handy.

The gals knew they wanted to lure the dragon to the square, not to the locus. So when they got a look at the Warden there, they pulled a neat trick: Merisiel encountered the giant, who was immediately destroyed by Ghlorofaex...but then Merisiel was able to evade the dragon. He was now trapped in the Town Square where they wanted him.

At that point, the gals worked the Locus, hoping to close it, since temporarily closing it would be tough for either of them (neither has great strength). Merisiel tried to defeat the giant first, but didn't quite kill him. Fortunately, her new ring kept her safe. A bit later, Lini tried to take one out with a Holy Light. On d10+2d6+d4+9, she rolled a miserable 5, failing by 15!

Time was winding down, and Merisiel's Holy Candle was nowhere to be found, so the gals realized that Lini would have to just temporarily close the Locus while Merisiel would defeat the dragon. Fortunately, Lini remembered her Blessing of Torag just in time. With the help of her animal power, she rolled 3d10, and was able to temporarily close it. Merisiel used a Sihedron Medallion that Lini had handed her earlier to block the breath, and her 5d12+d10+2d6+7 was more than enough to deal the killing blow, with just 2 hours remaining.

The gals then made their way into the ruins below the city, where one of the "spared" named Morgiv became their guide. He said that if Karzoug lives, he must be at the peak of Mhar Massif, beyond the Death Zone. It certainly sounds ominous!

For her reward, Merisiel asked for a blessing, and got a Sarenrae to replace her Blessing of the Gods. Lini wanted an ally, and managed to find a Lizard. She gave her Sabertooth Tiger to Merisiel, who fired Shalelu.

Lini replaced her Blessing of the Gods with a nifty Blessing of Nethys that she found. (Another way to look ahead! Yay!). Merisiel kept her new ring and belt, plus she ended up keeping the Sihedron Medallion that Lini had loaned her. She gave Lini the Emerald Codex and Revelation Quill, and gave up her Robe of Runes. Lini had given up the medallion, and she also gave up Ordikon's Staff, which just wasn't helping her anyway. Both of them were quite happy with the changes.

They removed 9 boons and 6 banes.

As an aside, Lini and Merisiel are really starting to wonder why they bothered picking up that Runeforged Weapons loot. In the two scenarios since getting them, they haven't seen a single "Transmuter". Presumably that will change at some point.
