Can we please stop with the misogyny around here? I mean, I've got a thick skin so it only annoys me a little but I think it makes Chit Chat seem unwelcoming to females. I would hate for threads like that to cause women to leave Chit Chat or have new people wander in to check it out and see those threads and never come back.

There aren't many of us around here to begin with. Be nice.

Yeah, there were a few of the earlier posts which made me feel uncomfortable. I agree with Debbie. If word gets out that Chit Chat can be a bit hostile to women, that means fewer souls to feast on!

On our planet of 7 billion souls, there are bound to be a few "common sense deprived" beings.

Some of the stuff recently has made me cringe also. Thanks, Debbie.

Always thought Chit Chat was a real mix of crazy, whether you're animal, vegetable or mineral. Thought this was a very nice, yet very strange place.

I believe it was Oscar Wilde who said, "there's only one thing worse than boorish behavior in the electronic world, and that's boorish behavior not in the electronic world."

While I have no problem with these sorts of requests, could I ask that they at least be accompanied by links to said alleged misogyny?

I know there's real bigotry about (see the idiocy from jimbrax in this very thread), but I've also seen a lot of these sorts of posts with no support whatsoever, just blanket claims, and a certain number that (when you finally get pointed in the right direction) tend toward rather extreme interpretations.

Reminder: Sexist comments DO NOT reflect the opinion of this site or the vast majority of its users and ARE NOT welcome here.

We ask that you use the icon when you see these kinds of comments or any other violations of the Community Rules. This serves two purposes:

1- using the icon will bring that post to the attention of forum moderators so they can deal with it appropriately. We prefer that you not respond to the post directly. Responding invites the offender to continue, and if you respond aggressively you may end up dragging yourself down with the offender.

2- if enough users flag a post using the icon then that post will be hidden from general view, preventing others from being exposed to it.

Thanks!

Eh, it might not be extreme, but there has at the least been some encouragement of unflattering stereotypes. As geeks, we should probably be more sympathetic!

One difficulty, though, is that a lot of times it may actually be borderline stuff--a series of posts which, individually, don't break the rules or do seem like an extreme interpretation, but which, in aggregate, could drive a person so far as to post a thread asking people in general to stop.

Sincerely,
the thoughtful, sensitive guy who just tried to pass off a pile of corpses at Bergen-Belsen as a group hug.

Which is why I'd like to see the links, so I can judge the instances and aggregate for myself, rather than rely on someone else just stating "there's bigotry over here". They could be right, or they could be like some of the more rabid / over-sensitive people we have in certain parts of BGG.

I love the irony of using "females" in the OP. Way to be open and accepting.

It just sounds so alien: "Greetings, earth females."

Reminded me of when I was working for the UN and we'd uncovered a mass grave of snowmen.

Turned out it was a field of carrots.

Is Rudy on vacation? I see no thumb here, which leads to my second point... Wasn't there once a thread about trying to post something Rudy would not thumb. Did someone already win that? Or was this it?
