Hi:
So recently I've been very lucky to get a rather large (8-9) person group going for D&D weekly. We've run into a few weeks where 2-3 people are out and we play board games instead (which is great because it allows me to indulge my other hobby, boardgames). The challenge I'm running into is that while we would only have 3-4 for D&D on these nights, when we change over to "lets play a boardgame", all of sudden everyone's spouse comes along, putting us at 6-9 players for boardgames. Come to find out, I have a ton of great 5 player games but am very challenged in the 6 player realm to find anything that isn't a "party game".
Here's what I have that works with 6: Wits and Wagers (party game) Apples to apples (party game) Eclipse (6 max) Battlestar galactica For Sale (great, but too short).
I'm looking for some medium weight euro's and ameritrash to add to this list, must play well (ie: not drag on forever) with 6+ and shouldn't be super complicated as a lot of these folks are new to boardgaming...appreciate any suggestions you all may have.
Thanks!

My group often plays with 8 people, our standbys at that number are Zombicide and Arkham Horror. Hope you find what you're looking for!

Citadels can get draggy with large group especially if there are people who AP. However, once everyone are familiar with the different characters, the game should speed up.

Games that play 6 or more aren't that hard to find, but games that play 6 or more that aren't long are harder. Here are the best I could think of to fit both requirements (that haven't already been named by others):
Damage Report up to 6
City of Horror up to 6
Ca$h 'n Guns (Second Edition) up to 8 (mid way between a gateway thematic game and a party game, but 8!!!)
Shadow Hunters up to 6
Betrayal at House on the Hill up to 6
Isla Dorada up to 6
RoboRally up to 8
Eclipse up to 6 with base game, 9 with expansion but it will go longer...
Power Grid euro up to 6, but is a bit longer...
Let us know what you choose!

Check out Good Cop Bad Cop for a quicker game you will want to play over and over again.
For a longer evening, which I assume isn't a problem since you are running a D&D campaign, you may be interested in Formula D

With 7 Wonders: Cities you can add an 8th player. Not a game I would recommend unless you want something light and short. If you want something long and epic that isn't fantasy or space stuff then it's Virgin Queen.

Resistance and Avalon are party games but I think they are a bit more strategic than most party games like Wits & Wagers or Apples to Apples. They can accommodate up to 10.
Fearsome Floors and Shadows Over Camelot can accommodate up to 7.

For 6:
Survive: Escape from Atlantis (with expansion)
Cyclades (with Titans expansion)
I had a great game of Gnostica with 6, but it's a game with a steep initial curve.
Chinese m'f'n Checkers, man. You'll be shocked at how crazy it gets with 6.

I just want to chime in to say congrats on getting a nine-player weekly D&D game going! Be still my heart, and dare to dream!
I don't have any good 6p recommendations, sorry. Panic on Wall Street might play 6+ easily. Maybe Chicago Express?

Sticking with medium weight games.
Ameritrash Roborally is my all time favorite Cosmic Encounter is an Easy Recommendation. Firefly with Pirates and Bounty Hunters expansion.
Euphoria is a good one for a Euro with 6 players.

A lot of deduction games will fall under this category (The Resistance: Avalon probably being my favorite), though I can tell you they all start to feel pretty same-y after a while.
Formula D works really good with a large number of players (up to 10 I think), and appears to be the highest ranked game that can handle a large number of players that isn't a party/deduction game. Actually my favorite game for large groups, by far. Will take 4+ hours with that many players though.
Long Shot is a really good horse racing game for up to 8, is newbie-friendly (has a theme everybody can recognize, and isn't overly complex) and even with a full table probably wouldn't last more than 90 minutes or so.
Tsuro might also be a good choice for up to 8.
And although I personally hate Pit with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, it for some reason has it's fans, and can also handle up to 8.
Whatever you do, do NOT play Citadels with it's max number of players - have done it twice, and it was about as fun as being repeatedly stabbed in the head with an ice pick.

Lords of Waterdeep with Lords of Waterdeep: Scoundrels of Skullport will do 6.
A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (Second Edition) is another good 6 player choice.
Cthulhu Wars with expansions will support 6 once it's released at retail sometime in the next few months.
Hyperborea is another one to check out.

For 6, all of which I own and highly recommend:
Keyflower Great auction and tile laying game.
Thunder Alley A little chaotic at 6 but still very fun.
Viticulture Worker placement game, plays well with 6.

Red Dragon Inn is a fun game that is very easy to teach/learn and even keeps a high level D&D theme going.
Though the base game only goes to 4 players, adding Red Dragon Inn 2expands to 8 players and gets you the awesome Gog.

My regular gaming group usually splits up when we have six or more players.
But of course I have played with six or more players several times. Most of the strategic games really are better with 4/5 players, but some can handle six players pretty well. The deduction games actually get better with more.
So here's some recommendations, all euros as I don't know much Ameritrash (and what I do know, I wouldn't recommend to anybody):
30-45 mins The Resistance (up to 10) Saboteur (up to 10) King of Tokyo (up to 6) Paris Connection (up to 6) King Me! (up to 6) Winner's Circle (up to 6)
60 mins 7 Wonders (up to 7) Metro (up to 6) Expedition (up to 6) Transamerica (up to 6)
90-120 mins Show Manager (up to 6) Acquire (up to 6) Union Pacific (up to 6) Power Grid (up to 6) Formula D (up to 10, but play a short race otherwise it will take forever)

Long Shot can be harder to find, so HomeStretch also works in this slot, although it maxes out at 6 players.
