Do you just add the expansions to make the trade deck larger or are you supposed to customize it somehow by removing things?

You just shuffle the expansion into your normal trade deck.

Sure would be nice for some rules from the publisher. At 80 cards, the base trade deck has a certain balance. Like other expandable card games, it doesn't take a large quantity of additional cards to throw off the balance and probability of the deck. I can't imagine that we're supposed to just continue throwing all of these cards into the deck.

It's what I've done with this and Bases & Battleships, and it seems to balance pretty well. The expansions are evenly distributed between factions and between strong and weak cards.

you can indeed just shuffle a pack into the deck, and play like that. You don't have to add every expansion to the base set, just whatever you like.

So, there you have it. That doesn't sound like it will scale well as time goes on and more expansions are added. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Additional expensive cards and certain events mean a player could buy the cards needed (just before the trade row becomes blocked with 7s and 8s) to destroy the other player before they can get enough explorers to do anything.
