I try to buy games only when they're on sale or when there's some kind of special promotion going on, and i'll usually only get something expensive if it's no longer in print and i've really really wanted it for a long time. (btw, by "expensive", i mean anything that's over $40!!) blush HEY - THEY ALL ADD UP YA KNOW??!!

Anyway, so i'm considering getting an "expensive" game... so i was just wondering how expensive games can get and how much you've been willing to shell out for them. (who knows, maybe it'll make me feel less guilty about splurging when i don't really need another game!!) kiss

Appx $250 for a Crokinole board and some fancy discs.

And I'm going to a Subbuteo meeting on Monday... this could prove even more costly!

The most expensive game I have is my Crokinole board ($175). Of course, it is in a special category - big, wood, and handmade. After that, my PitchCar set is the next most expensive, for similar reasons (except for the handmade). If you fact in all of the expansions, Settlers and Caracassonne have to be up there, too. Most for a single, non-dexterity game (since those tend to be pricey) - La Citta ($80, used). Most for a non-dexterity, non-used game - Railroad Tycoon ($60).

I hope this helps.

Oh... I hadn't factored in extra Crokinole disks... That puts Crokinole over $200...

If you count everything Heroscape as one game...definitely that. The largest one-time investment was for Hannibal: Rome vs. Carthage.

I'm sure the amount I spend on D&D minis have really added up by now. Excluding games that need boosters, the most I've spent on a game was Descent for $80.

Heroscape and Warhammer Fantasy by small steps are the biggest "investments". But the single biggest onetime purchase was Catan 3-D.

Before our son was born and during my first year of marriage, I decided I had to have a copy of Tales of the Arabian Nights. I kept watching eBay and lost a few auctions on used copies. Then one day I saw an auction for an unpunched copy, and decided I was going to win that copy no matter what, considering its value. I set my maximum bid pretty high, and someone bid the game up almost to my limit...I ended up having to shell out about $225 for the thing, which still sits unplayed and unpunched in a mylar plastic sleeve on my game shelves. Since then I've gotten to play a friend's well-loved copy and enjoyed it very much. Well worth the investment; I also plan to acquire another copy for play, whether it's the German version or a banged-up West End version.

About the same amount on my Crokinole board and extra discs in one purchase. Any CCG or miniatures game over the lifespan of the game is well into the quadruple digits.

ASL--'nuf said!

My single highest priced game purchase was $123 for an unpunched copy of Yaquinto's "Panzer" game--worth every penny as I have played that one solo and PBeM plus used the components to play Dirtside 2 as well.

Guderians Blitzkrieg II w/ updated Enemy at the Gates maps= $150

Now if I can find somewhere to set it up

Streets of Stalingrad retailed for about $179.00 but I only paid $100 for it in pre-pub

Then there is ASL, but that wasn't all at one time.

Only £35 (Die Macher 2nd Edition from Germany) I'm a tight little beggar. Any other expensive games come as pressies! I only usually buy smaller and medium priced games for myself!

About $130 Cdn for Roads & Boats and &cetera.

Come to think about it I have just under 2400 disks for Disk Wars....that must have cost me something, buying all those packs. Then there is MtG cards, a ton of Mechwarrior: Dark Age units....and...

Ummmm...blush..."My name is Richard and I have a game buying problem"

Without a question, the single most expensive game I've ever purchased is the 10th Anniversary 3D Settlers set I bought. I bought it on-line from Thoughthammer and paid $322 with shipping. It is probably money I should not have spent, but it is a really cool set that I am glad that I purchased.

Single most expensive game was Leyte Gulf from Avalanche Press. It was $170 (and that's after the pre-order discount).

Heroscape has been $400-ish.

But if you include CCGs (and that's sorta cheating), then my Magic the Gathering habit has cost me the equivalent of a small car. Since Alpha, on and off.

US$600 for a nice go set, but I've also wasted money on CCGs and minis games. Ah well.

Maybe $400 for Magic, $200 each for L5R and Doomtown, then $80 for Pitchcar.

My three most expensive games I ever bought are:

1. The Settlers of Catan Limited 3D Edition (No. 557)
199.99€ + 11.95€ (shipping) = 211.94€ (~ 268.94$)

2. Viktory II (imported on my own)
48.44€ + 18.96€ (shipping) + 10.53€ (tax) = 77.93€ (~ 98.88$)

3. Antiquity/Roads&Boats (both same price)
72.99€ (~ 92,62$)

The single most expensive game I ever bought was this huge barbarian-themed CHESS set- over 160 bucks. Whew, call me stupid.

The most I have spent one a single game-related situation is Heroscape. I have easlily spent over 500 bucks (call me REALLY stupid).
