Hello.
We have family game time every night--dh, me, and dd8.
My husband loves Blockus. It's his first choice every time it's his night to choose because it's strategy--no rolls of dice, no pulled cards. Just strategy. DD8 can rock the Blockus. I almost always lose. It does fit neatly into a half hour-ish but I could use a little variety!

Does anyone have any strategy game suggestions?

My son loves Hive, Sputnik and Convert, so I have added The Duke to my wish list.

My kids like Wood Wars 3D. Unfortunately it's still in development so they're about the only ones who can play it regularly.

I have started playing Machi Koro with the family.

There is dice rolling, so luck is involved but you can mitigate it to an extent. You do have to form your strategy while playing and can vary it from game to game.

Agricola and Dungeon Lords are worker placement games. Not as much luck as critical planning and someone doing something that you didn't cater for.

I won't play them with my 9 yr old though.
