Hello,

after doing a lot of games there are some things we changed a little :

A rule who puzzled us was the "march through" barbarian villages
and opponents territories. Sometimes it´s part of the tactic to
block an opponent from a territory. Becuase you want it for yourself
or maybe an opponent should not get this water territory to activate
a card. Reasons are a plenty. So if i block an opponent and he
marched with his military card right through me in my back...which
sense do try blocking ??? strange rule for us. We don´t allowed it anymore.

Start positions : In a 7 tile 4 player game you have 24 spaces
on the outer edge around the board. So the start player choose his
starting territory. The next player choose clock - or anticlockwise
a territory 6 spaces away ( one more or less if don´t work cause
of water or a barbarian village ). After all have choosed the
distance between players is nearly equal. So it happened not so
often that a player is walled in early and can´t expand( this time we try the game in allowing a maximum of two spaces for military, counting the cards with "up to four" only as two).
Yes, there is the 3 - gold rule to start again in another place.
A very cheap way ( maybe 10 gold would be better) but it should work without this.
Believe me this works better. It works also with two or three players.

We also developed a new game ending. There are games were players
are unable due to card luck and the situation on the board to finish
the game with temple building or eradig the barbarians.
Our game ends also when in a 4 Player game the card talon is run out
of cards the second time. After the last card drawn every player without a turn this round make his turn than the end.
Interessting to see the tension and activity of players in sight of
the end due to a shrinking talon. With three players you played
one talon empty than shuffled and draw 40 cards and after that game
ends, two player played the talon one time.

In the end it´s all a matter of taste. This suits our group
and if it´s interresting for some of you then this post
make sense.

Enjoy your DEUS matches... there will be more glorious victories
for all of you.

Ralf

3 gold would be very cheap. The cost of placing in another place is actually 3 VP. Or maybe you are suggesting 3 gold instead of 3 VP as a variant?

About the ending... we just found it fair Takenoko-style. When someone takes the last temple / barbar village, the round is played to an end.
AFTER THAT, EVERYONE HAS AN EXTRA TURN, EXCEPT THE PLAYER TRIGGERING THE END.
That way it's at least a little counterweighted, to take the risk to finish the game.

of course Bruce...3 VP´s...

Last night we tried the following :

Only 3 cards a player. You play a card or discard all.

Rule change for discard - Blue card shown : only 3 Gold

If you have a card who allow to draw more cards :

Example : you can draw 3 cards instead of the usual one.
Take 3 - decide 1 and discard the other two cards.

There are never more than 3 handcards allowed.
