In his recent Dice Tower interview with Tom Vassal, Christian T. Peterson, creator/designer of "Twilight Imperium" & Fantasy Flight Games' founder, revealed that the two new colors of spaceships included in the "Twilight Imperium: Shattered Empire" are white and orange.

Peterson said that "Shattered Empire" also introduces a new game component: Shock Troops.

He also said that there will be an entirely new sets of strategy and action cards for variant game play.

Just a quick note. The colors for the plastic will actually be gray and orange. We were originally considering white, but finally decided to go with gray.

Thanks!

Are the new Shock Troops components going to be plastic game figurines? Or are they simply going to be round cardboard counters?

(If they're plastic, would we be getting Shock Troops in all 8 colors?)

Think they're either cardboard counters or a tech to upgrade the ground forces. Can't see any new plastic units in the pic here.

There are no new plastic units. On the FFG site, this is mentioned due to cost reasons (new plastic would mean they'd have to produce some for the existing colors, too, etc).

From what it sounds like, at least from what people have said regarding previous versions, is that Shock Troops are like "upgrades" of regular troops. IE, you would still use a regular GF figure, but you'd put a counter under it or something to mark it as such.

If I recall, if a GF hits with a 10 on an attack, it has a chance to be upgraded to a Shock Troop.
