It must be said, the components look gorgeous.

And indeed, this sounds promising:

Quote:
The Euro Classics Line

Our new Euro Classics line is dedicated to making select Euro-style games widely available and introducing new audiences to them.

Its immense popularity and elegant marriage of mechanics to theme make Tigris & Euphrates an excellent game to launch this line. Stay tuned for news about the games that will follow it.

The "new FFG" can put as much plastic as they want in a Eurogame, but it won't matter (or help).

You just can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Sigh. I'm sure we all saw this coming with FFG being bought out recently...

It's not so shocking, recalling that they even published this:

Dunno how FFG reprinting classic games is a bad thing.

And even the most mutant-alien-Bmovie vampire driving a Panzer while rolling 16 d20's wouldn't mistake Tigris & Euphrates as a sow's ear. It's a fantastic game and I'm glad more people will get a crack at it.

It's a shame that this game has been out of print so long. I applaud FFG for reprinting it. Whine about components you don't like, but the simple fact is that there are not nearly enough of these games to go around.

Pete (has the 1999 Mayfair edition and is happy to see it reprinted)

I would trade in my Silver Line version of Through the Desert if they came out with a version with bigger board and camels. Lots of plastic there so that should not be a problem for FFG.

i heard the combat will now be done with tiny little cards, with a ton of flavor text.
the game length is now also 4-6 hours.
Spoiler (click to reveal)
and the winner is decided by a single die roll

I don't know what you have to say, it makes no difference anyway: whatever it is, I'm against it!

And $40 in 1999 inflates to $56 in 2014. So pricing seems about right, if not better, if you like the component changes and/or variants included.

And Mayfair stuff doesn't even get the normal online discount anymore. I'm very happy for FFG to republish any and all good games once published by Mayfair.

They definitely have some eurogames in their catalog, although I think it's safe to say those aren't the games they're "known for."

I'm certainly not opposed to seeing more euros in their lineup.

Which is part of their "Euro Classics" line.

Here's hoping the "Euro Classics" line will fare better than their "Designer Series" (which, AFAIK, began and ended with Ad Astra.)

You're not alone, but having seen enough terrible productions in general I'll take the plastic and the nice chits and such and just be glad I haven't paid $80 for a JKLM game lately.

It will matter heaps to Australia! No wood in the box makes importing it much more straightforward. Our quarantine laws are extremely strict!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but DoW no longer holds the rights to Colosseum.

AFAIK, no other company has ever published it. Who else would have the rights?

The rights may have reverted to designer. This is the case with many boardgame publication contracts.
