I can't see any reason why this would not be acceptable, and I don't see any ruling on it either way.
If I play a Crawler Card but have not revealed any new information I am guessing I can take the "move" back if I come up with something more efficient.
No harm, no foul, right?

That's how I play.

If I haven't drawn new cards then it's fine.

Sometimes it's only when I see the move play out do I notice a better move.

It's solitaire, so do what your whatever conscience can live with you dirty scoundrel!

jk, I've always played it out to the most optimal moves regardless of timing, but if you're in a match, I'd say "it's laid it's played".

Note; there is an official ruling on taking a play back if it is made illegal by another player's card play. Granted that's multi-player or competitive NOT sol or cooperative.
