Yes, amazingly enough, I have another puzzle in stock! And this is a BIG ONE! Let me tell you straight off - I crafted this puzzle to be very difficult, but still solvable. Feel free to use this thread for discussion.

So, let's get a few points of order out of the way...

The answer to this puzzle is a single word
None of the text in this post is part of the puzzle
The puzzle starts with the image below
Please consider adding a thumbsup to this thread if you are working on the puzzle
When you PM me, please use a subject line of "IBT-3 GUESS"
Only one guess per user per 24 hour period(1)
An additional bonus will be paid out to the winner: 1 for every day that the puzzle was unsolved

The first user to PM me the correct answer will win in-shrink copies of Take Stock and Reef Encounter (Z-Man Games Ed.)

---------------
(1) I will be travelling over the next couple of weeks - access to the Geek will be sporadic at best, and non-existent during Essen. Even though I will not be answering messages every day, you can still submit more answers. I will process guesses in the order that they arrive in my inbox. Subsequent guesses that have a postmark of less than 24 hours from your previous valid guess will be deleted and not considered.

It certainly appears that the number of sides on the shapes plays a big role. I need to go look at the previous puzzle's solution before I get too far into this one!

Oh, I forgot to add... Since Reef Encounter is a Big Box game, there will be no further hints from me on this one.

I agree about the number of sides. You have to go out of your way to create a 2-sided shape, and Simon did just that. The circle is the one-sided shape. I initially thought 1st letter, 2nd letter, etc., but if that's the case the count for each shape should be decreasing as the number of sides goes up. But the number goes up at one point.

I don't think the letters are a direct cipher. Only 2 letters missing, and no more than 3 of any single letter. The distribution is too even to for them to just represent other letters.

In computer science, lambda represents the empty string.

I posit that N = number of sides, since anything greater than 6 results in a negative or zero value.

Now to determine what, if anything, GL is.

If the 'N-7' refers to the number of sides, then perhaps 'GL-9/27' refers to the color.

Each number is probably a product of its color and shape, with the corresponding letter as ... but I think I said too much already, as I'd like that copy of RE.

You're not the only one who's thought of that. Excel is your friend when it comes to formulas.

And yet, there are only 14 numbers listed...
And Snow White might refer to 7 dwarves...
I'm a bit confused.

Don't think I have much chance of solving this one, so I'll give this one away.

Spoiler (click to reveal)
GL - 9/27. I'm almost positive GL stands for "GeekList". Coincidentally, Simon wrote a Geeklist on 9/27 that got remarkably little attention. Curious:

A Colorful Assortment of Games? - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/16653

If that helps, just remember me when you're famous, or help me out with the next part.

Alternatively... some free associations...

Spoiler (click to reveal)
There are 27 symbols (A - Z plus lambda) and you're supposed to remove 9 out of 27?

There are nine letters in Snow White.

There are seven dwarves, seven colours of the rainbow (all present) along with white and, well, some other colours. And six shapes. 6 x 7 = 42 and 42 is the largest number in the list of numbers.

Have you noticed that all the numbers are different, and include 2,3,4,5,6,7?

There are 14 numbers, = 7 x 2. (More sevens.)

The "grid" is mostly populated. What goes in the gaps?

There are eleven colors and eleven items in the GeekList, which I am
95% sure was created for this puzzle. Look at it. It's otherwise pointless. The grid is not yet ordered (if it is supposed to be a grid). If the colors map to the eleven GL items, we need to find the mapping.

Hmm... all posts in spoiler tags now? Neat. Guess I'll follow suit... even though this isn't much of a spoiler. Maybe I'll make it all a link so it shows up anyway

Someone said we needed an order for the 11 colors, so if the 11 items in the geeklist do relate to the 11 colors then I suppose that's the order..?
