S, L, M, and K sat down for a game of Samurai, because it was deemed quicker than El Grande. S and L had played recently, and M had only once played a few years ago. L was again delighted to see that the game also features Dutch text in the player aids.

S explained the rules, and thought to himself that Samurai is one of the simpler games to explain, and has very few gotchas, except for the scoring condtions.

Right away K, the least experienced player, put her most powerful pieces around Edo. This assured her the Edo pieces, and a few of the surrounding pieces, but limited her options for the rest of the game.

S first tried to get the majority of Buddhas, but after seeing that M was also gunning for Buddhas, decided to try for the relatively untouched High Hats instead. L then engaged M in a pitched battle for Buddhas.

At the conclusion of the game, it was found (to S's great surprise) that S had the majority in High Hats AND Buddhas, thus granting him an automatic victory and sparing the group the unusual scoring rules. L and K were tied for the next place, and M failed to get the majority of any object type.
