Hello, I am starting to paint all my minis for MoM. As I am wrapping up the investigators I was looking to see what I wanted to paint next and I was reminded that the models for the witches are very.....well, they are practically naked. Our hobby has a lot of issues with the portrayal of women and this is a prime example.

I was wondering if anyone has found any good models to use in place of the ones that come in the box.

These should be perfect. Try the sisters of the coven or the cousins of the coven for four very nice youngish, clothed witch figures in each.

Or you might prefer the last pack on the page, "Storybook witches and old hags".

It's not the hobby that has the "issues" with the portrayal of woman. It is the puritan basis for the American culture that creates fake demons like these issues.

That being said... they are wearing more than most people on a beach.

People, don't ridicule the OP.
He didn't complain about the nakedness (well, not very much, maybe a little backhandedly) and stated that HE has a problem with the nakedness. That's a matter of personal taste, first and foremost.

Interestingly, I think in this situation the depiction of the witch is not really something that sexualizes women, though. Or, well, yes it might, but it doesn't objectify the female figure represented by the miniature. Rather, I think it is a representation of the "free spirit" of a woman in sync with her own sexuality and femininity, on par with the hippie generation, or with people like Amanda Palmer etc. It is not a "look at the boobies" sexuality for the pleasure of men, but rather an "in your face, this is my body, I do with it, what I want" sexuality of female empowering.

...okay, I might be reading a bit too much into the model...

And on the other hand, yeah, the nakedness of the model was not necessary, of course. Which might be a valid point that might undermine my argument mentioned above...

Descriptions of covens such as those found in old witchcraft treatises like the Malleus Maleficarum, often describe witches naked and having sexual intercourse with devils. I always though that was the reason for the MoM witch model, as opposing to the more traditional 'old hag' look.

Here are a few illustrations by spanish artist Francisco de Goya, who did several drawings about the subject (warning: naked people ):

Do not forget, that one of the witches has special attack when she tries to seduce you. They use their bodies as a weapon, tool. They will show exactly one point less than you want to leave you wanting more, leaving them with everything they need to control you.

That being said, they could be much more suited up, it is really up to personal taste.

I agree with Santi Velasco that Lovecraftian witches are more based on the mythical free-spirit and less-prudent-morals women, ass they were depicted by inquisition.

I really like Reaper's "Bones" line for fun proxies for both Mansions of Madness and Descent 2e.

Here's some fun ones but I'd look through the entire Bones catalog to see if there's something perfect for you.

I almost forgot. I picked up Malifaux's "Zoraida" miniature and I think she may just be the creepiest witch model out there. She is, unfortunately in your case, topless but thought I would share as she's Old Witch creepy.
