I've read the rules twice and am still flummoxed as to the rule on placing zombies.

In the attack of the Zombies phase, the rules indicate two more zombies are added to the board. One to the location with the most characters and one to the location with the most pin ups.

I am assuming that in counting characters, they each count as one. In other words the gunman counts as a single character. Is this right?

In counting pinups, does this mean that as long as the supermarket is open, it gets a zombie? Or is it refering to the sum of Character Points in each location? In other words, is the zombie placement here based on player actions or board design?

Thanks for any help with this.

In response to the second part of your question, the "pinup" refers to the 7-value piece that each player has. Wherever the highest concentration of 7-pieces is gets an extra zombie. If there's a tie, no extra zombie. (the pieces are named in the beginning of the rulebook: pinup (7), tough guy (5), gunman (3), little girl (1))

And the gunman is one person, yes. Count pieces in a location, and the most gets a zombie. Again, no extra ziombie in the case of a tie.

Agreed for the above. It sounds like you're confused on your pieces.
Pinup: Attracts zombies, but is worth massive points.
Tough guy: Counts as 2 characters for keeping zombies out of his location.
Gunman: Counts as 2 votes, but only one character.
Little girl: 1 point, 1 vote, 1 character...zombie food, sadly, but she makes a great tiebreaker if you can keep her alive.
