Looking for fun family games, like camel up! I recently bought camel-up, my family loves it. It is currently our favorite game and my daughters cant get enough.

We of course have castle panic, apples to apples, love letters, nuns on the run, council of Verona, all of which they love, but Camel-up seems to rank very high!

I bought Sheriff of Nottingham, but I haven't gotten them to play it yet. (hopefully that one pans out)

I am looking for some more light family games like camel-up, but I haven't come up with much.

I was looking at abandon ship, but I don't know much about that game, any advice you can give would be helpful.

Thanks so much.

Try Jamaica, King of Tokyo, and Colt Express. All of which are a hit with my family. What do you like about Camel Up? May help us make recommendations.

Colt Express!
Absolutely love this one. I'm sure it'll be a hit with kids, but everyone I play it with is in their mid-20s and it's always a blast.
Light and FUN!

I think what they like about camel-up is it being light, easy, still with a lot still going on, but its fun and unpredictable.

We have a lot of other games this one just trips all the triggers.

Dixit (the first game to put on your list IMO)
Evo
Dice Town
Chronology
Colt Express+1
Las Vegas
Divinare
Perudo (Liars Dice)
Bang!
Fauna
YAY!
Survive! Escape from Atlantis
.... would all be good Family game choices.

... Abandon Ship is ok .. but I would rank below this. Also Tobago, Jamaica and Hanabi should all move up your wishlist.

if you want more inspiration there are a lot of good choices here:
Great 6 Player games that play in under 60 minutes (including some overlooked gems) ...

+1 to Dixit - (you mentioned they liked Apples to Apples so this should be a great fit)

+1 Colt Express - Daft chaos, presented on a stunning board.

+1 King of Tokyo -This has had so much play from my friends and I've played it with a child as young as 5 (helping them read the cards) and they thought it was a blast.

+1 Love Letter - Added bonuses that it is dirt cheap and can be played virtually any where.

Other games that have gone down well with kids (played with 5, 8 and 10 year old).

Hey, That's My Fish! - Collecting fish and eating up the "board" as you go. The five year old I taught this too really liked the game and loved marooning my penguins on islands to the point he didn't even care about scoring at the end. The fun was running around and stranding each other for him

Tsuro - Tile laying game where you attempt to be the last man standing.

Flash Point: Fire Rescue- I mention this one as it was (and believe it still is Cameron's) the five year old now seven favourite game. We played without the roles, hotspots and hazards. Not sure if I would recommend it over some of the others but a great family co-op.

I just ordered Colt Express I am certain it will be a hit, I also might order Dixit I am excited to try these, I ordered about 5 other game all from one BBGer. We are beginning to discuss frequent buyer miles.

In two months I've bought close to 25 games, I think a drug addiction would be far cheaper....

If anyone thinks of something else that would be worth a try let me know.

Happy gaming,
Eric

+ 1 Dixit, Tobago, Ticket to Ride

Isla Dorada - treasure hunting on a mysterious island. Whimsical, lighthearted family game with good player interaction. It's fun to mess up the plans of your fellow explorers even as you seemingly cooperate with them. The game is unpredictable and bursts with theme and colour. And, you can even paint the unique pawns that come with the game.

Also Escape: The Curse of the Temple, Thebes, Bohnanza

My favorite games to play with the (non gamer) family are:

* Port Royal (really nice and fun combination of a bit of strategy & gambling, both gamers and non gamers love it and some have already bought it, too, after playing it together)
* Love Letter (which you already own)
* Skull King (a faster, more fun, less serious way of older Wizard)
* Posion (aka Friday the 13th) (light and fast though not trivial card game
