This isn't much help I know, but I think I remember a Geek from DC saying that there weren't any good local stores a couple days ago.

I live near DC, and the closest one I know of is: http://www.gameparlor.com/

It would be really nice if anyone else knows of others in the area.

Just north of DC (~15 miles) is The Family Game Store (8600 Foundry St, Savage, MD 20763, (301) 776-5980). Don't let the name fool you - they have a decent supply of wargamer stuff, eurogamer stuff, and miniatures. Further, every Saturday night is boardgame night: around 6:30, a regular crowd of 10-15 people shows up, breaks up into groups, and plays games they've either brought or that the owner has open.

I've been to both Dream Wizards and the Family Game Store in Savage. Dream Wizards has a larger selection, and is probably the closer of the two. However, I like the Family Game Store more. They are in a nice and quirky shopping center, and I like the atmosphere more. I haven't been to one of their game nights, as I am more involved in the Games Club of MD (http://www.gamesclubofmd.org/home.asp), but it's probably worth checking out if you have the time.

The best game store I've found within reasonable driving distance is the Game Parlor in Chantilly VA. I think there is a GCOM session there and it should be listed in the gamesclubofmd link that Mike just posted for you. Actually, here's the direct link which includes a photo of the store:

http://www.gamesclubofmd.org/locations.asp?location=31

The Rockville store (Dream Wizards) also has a good selection. A little farther out is a store in Gaithersburg called Other Realms. Further east, in the Laurel area, near where I live, there is a store called Hobby Works in the Laurel mall that has several shelves of games in the back corner of the store. There's also a game store in the Savage Mill mall further north, toward Baltimore.

Sorry, don't have addresses for all these, maybe others can help. I'm unaware of any game stores inside the district lines, but it doesn't mean there aren't any.

Hope this helps.

I guess I should add that the GCOM host for the Games Parlor-Chantilly sessions, Tom McCorry, is due back from Essen this week so going there on one of the upcoming game nights (which I think are on Tuesdays) might be an opportunity to see some of the new games as well as shop in the store.

While there are not any metro accessible game stores (Dreamwizards is a 15 minute walk from White Flint metro- nice store but not worth the walk), Gamesurplus.com ships overnight to the DC area so it`s all gravy for DC people.

For Eurogames, Child's Play (toy store with excellent game selection) on Connecticut Avenue just south of the DC/MD border. Take the Red Line (Metrorail) to Friendship Heights, exit to Western Avenue and walk east to Connecticut Avenue and then a block or two south. It's probably < 1/3 of a mile. Alternatively, get off the Red Line at Van Ness Street and take any L1 or L2 bus north on Connecticut Avenue. Get off at McKinley St (where you'll see a Safeway). Child's Play's on the opposite side of the street next to Arucola.

So glad you went and liked it!! I live about five blocks from the store. And I personally will take (well, share) credit for Roma being there, LOL!

the compleat strategist is about 10 minutes from downtown dc in virginia, maybe 5 minutes from the pentagon. they have a nice, nice selection of wargames as well as regular games, and their staff really seemed to know their way around the games. a few times i was in browsing and they would provide guidance and recommendations on the different games.

a google search for compleat strategist will lead you to their website and specific address in the dc area.
