Hello all.

I should have figured this out sooner but I'm a horrible procrastinator..

I am leaving in two days for Tokyo from the U.S.A. and I need to know if I should pick up an adapter for charging my electrical devices. Notably a camera and a Nintendo DS.

I know that the plugs should be the same and that the voltage is 100 with 50 cycles in Tokyo.

I need to know if this is OK to plug my stuff straight in or if I need to purchase something.

Any help as soon as possible would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You can get a DS-to-USB adapater at many video game stores, which should let you charge your DS in an internet cafe. Likewise your digital camera maycharge via USB.

Hmm... An interesting and very possible option.
I was wondering about charging in the hotels overnight though.

Thanks for the reply.

Any other advice still appreciated.

My DS power adapter actually says 100V 50/60Hz on it (in the little box under the line of Japanese text).

Read the text on the AC adapter for your camera. It probably says something like 100-120V, 50/60Hz.

In general, most strictly electronic equipment won't have a problem with 100V 50Hz. Physical motors would be a different matter -- they turn at 5/6th speed due to the lower frequency.

Hope this helps.

YOU RULE
THANK YOU so much!

I never thought to look at that. I am rather geeky in many ways but only in terms of games and modelling. Electronics escape me.

My camera charger cable says it will accept (EDIT: 100V / 50hz.)

YAY!

I talked to the Radio Shack guys and they wanted to sell me a $40 thing.... I didn't feel right about his "sales pitch" and thought I'd check with the friendly foks at the Geek.

Good thing too.

I can't thank you enough.

And loud.

Actually the kana (and kanji) came through just fine on my end...

But I will take the advice V-E-R-Y M-U-C-H T-O H-E-A-R-T.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND? "TUUUUUU HAAART"?

.... And more ??!

(that's "biiru" in case it didn't come through...)
