War across the multiverse orders



Advances in the future led to the creation of biomechanoid ships, capable of penetrating the barriers between the mutliverse orders. There, with the ability to command the vast energies available, biokind waged war with itself for control of the multiverse


A 2 player "batteline" style game lasting about 30 minutes

components: 54 cards, 1 set of D&D dice, 40 or so eurocubes

I've wanted to explore the idea of a battleline game now for awhile but was hoping to bring a few new things possibly to the genre

1. this type of game rarely seems to take advantage of adjacencies in the player's line, as well as multiple copies of units providing support for each other.

2. often the battle at a site concludes when either 3 cards are played to one side of the site or 5 overall.

3. units within a player's side do not have enough differentiation in their abilities.


so i've been working since the start of the year to see what i can do with these points raised.


there will be 6 battle sites in the game. each will have a d&d style die placed on it (thematically i like this idea because it represents the higher dimensions of the mutliverse orders in a 3d visual form) with the highest value show. players play cards to either side with a dimension threshold value. once the combined values = the threshold, no further cards can be played. a number of the cards also show an order number which prevents them from being played to certain lower number orders


players have 5 types of cards in the game - Attack Ships, Unit Drafters, Defensive Measures, Energy Batteries and Sabotage Engines. players first draw their Attack Ships from a separate deck (this will be done either with a pick and pass drafting rule or a random draw) and then draw to their hand 3-5 cards, replenished each turn.

the various cards have interrelationships and a number of them need to be powered by the Energy Battery cards for their effects.




currently i am working to adjust the various values in the game and refining the icons so that they are easy to understand


artwork for the game comes from victorian drawings of pollen and diatoms and i think adds a compelling visual quality to it all. colors chosen for the 5 cards types seem to work well with my colorblind filter tests

Oho, we're both entering lane games into this contest eh? Good, I've already stolen much of your knowledge learned a lot from your games, I look forward to playtesting this one too. Especially as the theme grabs me as just my kind of abstract / rightbrain aesthetic balance.

This is really very nice Todd! I am very fond of diatoms and microorganisms and the way you are presenting them is amazing. The illustrations remind me of images in old microbiology textbooks.

Even if you go past the submission deadline I suggest pursuing this design. It seems interesting and it's a beauty.

rules are now drafted. I have to add a guide to the card abilities and layout the 3x3 card format for crafting. should be able to do that in the next day or two and then people can have a look at everything.

well, as i said it was all up in my head, just needed to write it all down. will do a typo/consistency error check tomorrow once i can look at everything with a fresh eye and then post the files.

the cards are in the 3x3 format now and the abilities guide has been laid out as well.

A question from a first quick read through:

How do you mark an order that is at a threshold value of exactly zero?

The die can't show zero, but the control phase is only triggered when the threshold value falls below zero.

Common Morpho: Receive 1 Energy marker for each Morpho card in any of your Order columns.

Any single one column or all Order columns?

Everything else seems very clear.

I'll try to pnp and test this, but I'm not sure I'll be able to in time to give feedback.

what i mean to state is as soon as zero is reached the control phases happens. i didn't want to suggest that somehow you had to play cards directly bringing the value to zero.

i will see about restating this
