There is this great Irish place as well about 2 stops up on the tram. Can't remember the name, but I'm sure someone else will (or did I miss it in your list of recommendations?). Thanks for the recommendations. I will have to try some of these out!

I lived in Dallas in 99-2000...and can't remember any of the restaurants (aside from Dave and Busters, and I remember that just b/c I lived nearby). Sad.

I'll be looking for a good cajun restaurant. Specifically, I want some crawfish etoufee. MMmmmmmm....

Oh, and I may make a trip to Texas de Brazil (yay for meat on a stick!).

Trinity Hall is at the Mockingbird station on the light rail.
A quite nice Irish place. Just get off the rail and up
the escalator.

Dammit - I'm blanking on the name of the Mexican place that Nate, Kevin, Jon, and I went to at BGG'05. Don't know if it is on the above list or not...but it was pretty good. It was within walking distance, if you consider an hour to fall in that range.

Any help, guys?

There was also an irish pub that was giving a discount to Con-goers that was really good...but I'm blanking on that name too!

Best mexican places in town IMHO in order are:

Mariano's (about 15 minute drive, but only 2 minutes from my house )
Cantina Larado (the closest I'm aware of is Royal/Forest with is about 20 minutes)
Mi Cocina (in the West End which is 2 stops down the line further into downtown)

Crawfish are really not in season now, I know there are some good Cajun restaurants around (not sure where).

Ahh Texas de Brazil or as I call it Macho Meat Experience. Here is the game my friends and I play when we go. Everyone turns over there green token to say they want food. You must take all meat offered while it is green. If you turn over the green token to red (for no more meat) you are out of the running. The last 1 or 2 people who do not turn over their token and eat all their meat have their meal paid for by the others. The longest match we had lasted almost 3 hours.

Okay, I have to throw my Tex-Mex favorites out there

El Fenix (the one on Mockingbird and Garland Rd)
Any of their Chipotle dishes, Fajitas

Chuy's
Relleno and Enchilada

Cantina Larado
Everything

Mariano's Hacienda (only 1 1/2 minutes from my house, HA! )
Their menus have changed recently, not sure. They use to have a shrimp enchilada with white sauce, no more .

Cantina Laredo is at Royal and Preston (forest and royal are pretty much parallel). The closest to downtown is at Lovers and the Tollway. And yes it is good.

Speaking of Mexican there is a really good hole in the wall type restaurant on lemmon that I can not remember the name of that serves some fantastic Brisket tacos.

And along the line of Mexican, on Sundays there is a catholic church a block from the BGG con that has a guy out front who sells some of the best fresh pork rinds and hot sauce.

Consider taking the drive out to Kalachandji's if you're into delicious vegetarian fare. Located in a Hare Krishna temple, the food is wonderful, reasonably priced, and served alongside a truly special tamarind cooler beverage.

I need to try that, I ate at the Hare Krishna Temple in Denver often. Did not know that there was one here in Dallas.

I think Javier's which is in the Knox-Henderson area referenced by the OP is the best true Mexican food restaurant in the country. http://www.javiers.net/

It is a little upscale (jeans and a knit, at least, required)

I would also recommend using www.guidelive.com to search for other cuisine's in the area.

I don't make down into that area of Dallas much. I'm much more familiar with North Dallas/Plano.

However probably my favorite seafood place is Big Shucks on Mockingbird a little ways east of Greenville.

As far as mexican goes La Hacienda Ranch is a favorite of mine and my friends, but I'm not sure if they have one close by.

And as said above, you can't go wrong with all you can eat meat on a stick, but I prefer Fogo de Chao to Texas de Brazil. The parmesan pork is wonderful.

It's a little farther North, but if you want good BBQ and nice scenery you can't go wrong with Bone Daddy's in the North Dallas. It's like a Hooter's with good food.

I don't get downtown much anymore, but at the West End (about
2 stops away on the rail) there is also Hoffbrau Steaks
(one of the older steak houses in Dallas).
In the lower McKinney area is Gingermans. Not much food,
but possibly the best beer bar in town.

Good lord. We're going to spend all weekend eating, and not have any time for games.

What's the best BBQ joint nearby? It doesn't need to be classy (most of the time, the better ones aren't), it just needs delicious sliced brisket, hot links, and some yummy hot bbq sauce.
