I'm thinking of, in addition to my usual Lenten discipline of giving up a particular food or drink, refraining from posting in or (more extreme version) reading RSP for Lent. Pointless religious superstition as the Lenten abstinence may be, it may have its uses...

As an agnostic, I encourage everyone in RSP to give up responding to the D, JeremyC, and James. If you want to say it's for Lent, then that's cool by me.

Yes, otherwise you should give up all BGG except for RSP. Wouldn't that be more in keeping with lent?

Well, I'm running an online tournament partly through BGG, so it would be pretty inconvenient for the participants if I gave that aspect up. But maybe I could confine myself to the minimum activity necessary for 'official' purposes.

I'm not giving up RSP for lent, as I think you're supposed to give up something that you enjoy.

I find that Lent helps me recenter who I am every year. A time of reflection and review of my year and life. A time to recommit to becoming better. Much more effective and with a greater impact on deeper levels than New Years Resolutions etc.

I try to pair the giving up of something along with adding a commitment to "do" something daily as well. Though I am much better at giving up things than doing things apparently.

That depends. I find bickering about repetitive introductory topics to be distracting from spiritual growth. And it upsets my emotional equilibrium as well.

While discussion of more in-depth topics with polite respectful tones observed by all helps my growth and focus.

So it depends on what somebody gets out of RSP most of the time.

Folks, I admit it: I'm the reason that She2 lost her religion. What's more, I would like to discourage anybody from responding to me who hasn't done his/her homework and research and can't at least cite one credible contextual reputable source to back up his/her viewpoints.

Otherwise, just like the REM song says, you won't have a prayer and really might end up losing your religion.

Consider this advice a loaner if not for Lent.

Does this mean you've finally committed to quit responding to your own posts?

Since I've never started responding to my own posts, I can't very well stop it. laugh

If you really want to sacrifice for Lent, perhaps you should force yourself to read every RSP thread.

It will be a loss if one of the few thoughtful posters left distances himself from RSP. At least we hope you will return. When does the Lent period end?

The irony here is that you finally post something of interest and its your swan song. One interesting thread per year and you blow it on this ?

Turbo Lover

[Tipton/Halford/Downing]

You won't hear me, But you'll feel me
Without warning, somethings dawning, listen.
Then within your senses,
You'll know you're defenseless
How your heart beats, when you run for cover
Your cant retreat I spy like no other.

Then we race together. We can ride forever
Wrapped in horsepower, driving into fury
Changing gear I pull you tighter to me

I'm your turbo lover
Tell me there's no other
I'm your turbo lover
Better run for cover

We hold each other closer, as we shift to overdrive
And eveyrthing goes rushing by, with every nerve alive
We move so fast it seems as though we've taken to the sky
Love machines in harmony, we hear the engines cry.

I'm your turbo lover
Tell me there's no other
I'm your turbo lover
Better run for cover

On and on we're charging to the place so many seek
In perfect synchronicity of which so many speak
We feel so close to heaven in this roaring heavy load
And then in sheer abandonment, we shatter and explode.

I'm your turbo lover
Tell me there's no other
I'm your turbo lover
Better run for cover

I'm your turbo lover
Tell me there's no other
I'm your turbo lover
Better run for cover

Thankyou Moshe. Lent is traditionally "forty days and forty nights". This year it ends at midnight on April 4th.

But that was 15 years ago, these days it would probably just result in my becoming catholic again (mind you that also happened 15 years ago).

On that note, I bid you a fond farewell until Easter Sunday!
