The groups rearranged, and David, Ryan, Toby and Jo played Capitol. I wasn’t a participant in this game, so this session report is based on what I can read of David’s notes.

David was the only veteran. The other 3 were all newbies. Which turned out to be fairly important in the results: David, that wily veteran, ended up buying ALL of the fountains and the amphitheatres! This is quite an advantage..... But David did say he tried to stress the importance to the rookies. Next time, kids, don’t let one player get all of those things!!!

After round 1, the scores were:
Toby - 6
Jo - 5
David - 4
Ryan - 1

In Round two, Toby locked up the high pink region, with David in 2nd there.

Round 2 scoring:
David - 9
Ryan - 9
Toby - 9
Jo - 4

Cumulative scoring:
Toby - 15
David - 13
Ryan - 10
Jo - 9

By the end of the 2nd round, all regions but one were occupied, and two of the regions were already full! At this point, Ryan felt a bit disheartened in the cruelty of the game towards the new player. It’s O.K., Ryan. We were all newbies, once.....

In round 3 the scores were:
David - 18
Toby - 11
Ryan - 6
Jo - 5

Cumulative scoring:
David - 31
Toby - 26
Ryan - 16
Jo - 14

The only notes about the final round is that it was BRUTAL

Round 4 scoring:
David - 20
Toby - 14
Jo - 9
Ryan - 7

Final cumulative scores:
David (winner) - 51
Toby - 40
Ryan - 23
Jo - 23

It was definitely a learning game for the 3 rookies, although Toby did keep within sight of David.

Ratings:
David - 8
Toby - 7
Jo - 7
Ryan - 5

Ryan felt that this particular first playing of Capitol for him was frustrating, and that is reflected in his rating. He did say that he thinks in the long run his rating will go up.

Toby felt a quieter setting might have been better for concentration (we were playing a rather loud and boisterous game of Piratenbucht nearby! Avast, ye matey!). He also felt the game had some uneven pacing. I don’t know what that means exactly.

Ryan and Jo - maybe we’re throwing too many new games at you all at once! It certainly can be a bit overwhelming at first!
